General Discussion / ?? For the marine or canvas people.
November 07, 2011, 05:42:27 pm
I have a Bimini top on our pontoon. I replaced the tie down straps a couple of months ago and already one of the metal clips has broken. Walmart C^&p. The straps are also getting stiff and the adjusters suck. What can I make these out of that will be better?

General Discussion / Cutting

I am curious on how people cut. I learned to measure a piece and cut the complete job, going back to finish patterning after everything was rough cut.

General Discussion / Sunguard fraying
November 01, 2011, 03:57:50 pm
I looked through the threads here (postings :)) about sunguard thread and it doesnt fit my issue. At work we run a 206RB1 and Sunguard is fraying as soon as I start sewing. I tried all different ways to thread the machine to no avail. I brought in another spool in also and got the same results. The machine is missing the thread guide right on the needle bar could this be the issue? The machine sews fine with mono, and nylon threads.
  Thanks.

General Discussion / Bimini frame parts supplier?
August 06, 2011, 12:33:39 pm
I am no canvas person but have a pontoon where the Bimini is not tight enough and puddles. I may need to lengthen the short frame member to tighten it up. From the looks of it just adjusting might not do it. I didn't have any tools last week to try this week I will.
But anyway where might I find some square pre bent tube if I need to replace the short member(s)?

General Discussion / Grommets again
May 27, 2011, 06:25:10 pm
OK I did a search for grommets and found a wealth of information. Now I need a simple bit of the same.
I use a Press and Snap tool that originally came with a grommet die set. I only have a few grommets left and need to buy some. The brass grommets I have are a #2 with a 3/8" hole and a 1/4" long shaft. I have found these to work in anything I have used prior. Vinyl 1,2 or 3 layers, canvas 1,2 or 3 layers. These have a regular ring not the piercing type. In reading all the information I am confused in which to get. And which ones will be like the ones I have so they work in my tool and die set.
I have to set 60 or so of these so I don't want to do it more than needed. Or worse yet spoil the top I'm making for a customer. Heavy weight Sunbrella.
I also gather from reading here there is no way to punch and set in one fell swoop :-) I have the cutter so I guess I will punch and then set :( how barbaric
 Thanks guys and gals.

General Discussion / Nail trim !!
May 10, 2011, 03:40:58 pm
Just to blow off some pain. In the last day and a half all I have done was hammer in 3000 brass nails. I don't want to see another one for at least a week  :P
I figured it out I can do 125 an hour. I never had that figure to work with before some something good came out of it besides the project.
I don't think I have ever installed that many before in my 30 years of tacking things.
  My hands are killing me.

General Discussion / Foam for a hot tub cover
January 02, 2011, 12:42:01 pm
I've been trying to find a place to buy the foam core for a hot tub. I have written to 3 or 4 of the local manufactures around Tampa and they all say they won't sell it retail. I did write from my companies account to no avail.
Does anyone have any ideas? This would be around 90" x 90" tapered cut from 4" - 2 1/2".

General Discussion / Welt foot issue
November 06, 2010, 07:36:19 am
I'm having a hard time with a welt foot of my Consew 205RB. The foot is 3/16 and I'm using 5/32 fiber flex type cord and when sewing it the foot runs off and or over the cording. I am using a lightweight fabric. I have never experienced this before but this machine is fairly new to me. Is the foot the wrong size? Is it a foot pressure thing? The cording is nice and firm.

Thanks for any help you might offer.

General Discussion / Mustang bucket repair?
August 21, 2010, 08:43:47 am
I've run into something new to me  :o. I am repairing a bucket seat out of a Mustang. I am used to hog rings but found these to be glued down to the foam in the seams. What type of glue is this strong?
  Thank you

General Discussion / Question on button machines.
July 11, 2010, 01:27:44 pm
This is a Handy Jr. I have never seen one like this and don't know if it is the same as the models that have the exposed spring. I wonder if any of you may have seen this model and if the regular dies will fit this model?
  Thanks.

General Discussion / Looking for some things.
July 08, 2010, 03:23:45 pm
I'm looking for a few tools that I stupidly got rid of thinking "I'm never gonna do Upholstery again"

If you have one you want to get rid of cheap let me know. I am short on cash but not cheap.

1. Handy button machine. 22s and 30 dies would be nice with it.
2. Clinch it tool
3. Bosch foam saw
4. Might add to this list
5. Glue sprayer. Can't believe they want 90 bucks for one now

  Have a great day.

General Discussion / Introduction
July 04, 2010, 07:52:38 pm
  Hello,

Just want to say Hi and introduce myself. Name is Paul. I had a shop in Syracuse NY for some 27 years and gave it up as I refused to lesson my quality to compete with the market. Have since moved to Florida where I took a job as an Upholsterer. Found I still like it and have decided to start up again. Bought a new machine, some tools and am waiting for the work :)
Anyway.. I did mostly furniture and antique restorations. Marine and Auto. In Florida I think Marine and Bikes are where the work is so I'm pushing those.
I've read allot here and find there are some artisans that frequent the forum. I look forward to reading more and answering anything I might be able to help with.
 Have a great day.
