Good gracious did any body watch it right though ! I skipped to the end & instantly decided it was far to much hassle.
Must have been an engineer involved lol..

I like this idea, but not got round to doing it yet.

QuoteIv'e not had issues with the soft fabric other than the fraying, for which I use an serger.

I saw a video where the guy suggested that instead of buying an expensive hot gun to cut the fabric you could use a soldering gun and run it around the cut edges to stop it from fraying.

Has anyone tried this? I'm not sure if it would be faster than serging.

Hot knife works great on the regular sunbrella but I found the upholstery / cushion grade doesn't like it. Could be more cotton in the mix I can't remember, hence the serger ( looks neat as well ) failing that I would turn the edge, more work but neater end product that won't fray. Not used a soldering iron but also heard it works as good as a hot knife.

Couldn't say, just depends on the jobs at hand.  I try to stick to a 5 day week for a start, then some days I spend all day out patterning or speaking to clients other days all in the shop cutting, sewing & tea drinking.
Very difficult to put an average on it.

We just hit the 40'C, s here in Sunny Alicante, it's nasty working in the marina in this heat coupled with high humidity you just can't drink enough water, it just rolls straight back out as sweat. Roll on the winter.

Least I can hide in the shop most days while my OH melts on the boats.

I use fibre welt cord & always cut on the bias.

Yes still in the same area, further inland now but still near to ALicante.
Oh if we are talking FIRST machine, that was an old jones domestic, first paying job on a friends bavaria ( sail boat ) think it was dodgers.
Closely followed by a Reeds sailmaker, which I still have & use for lighter work like sheets & curtains.

Hi DH, yes I am still around.
Moved house/shop & had some minor health issues but getting back into the groove now.

I think the Adler was pensioned off from a shoe factory wasn't a walking foot so that's maybe why we didn't get on.
Cleaned it up & made on the deal so added to the learning curve.

My first industrial was a pfaff 545 bought second hand & already had a hard life, since then I have picked up another couple of machines, a Durkopp Adler which I just couldn't get on with & sold on and a much younger seiko which has better choice of feet & much quieter. But the 545 remains my #1 machine I just keep oiling it & cleaning it & it keeps on going. That's 15 years with me, no idea how old it is.
The seiko sits on the side lines waiting for it's moment. The 'others' have their specific uses & will just get replaced when necessary, overlocker etc.

Don't worry to much about the heart worms, although left untreated potently fatal, they are all to common here. Treatment can be as simple as one tablet a day.

PVC foam board, heat to shape & no need to paint. Ask June C, she's the queen of boards. :-)

Yes I remember the barrel of monkeys. :-)

Thanks Clay, I believe it's just the top, I will drag it up to the loft then. I have one machine in there & lots of empty floor space.

General Discussion / Any body repaired a tennis net ?
January 23, 2015, 08:33:19 am
I am told that the stitching along the top has rotten away. Haven't seem it yet, I was wondering how thick the netting will be & if it will fit under the foot ?

My favourite for years was.

All targets met
All systems working
All customers satisfied
All staff eager and enthusiastic . . .
All Pigs fed and ready to fly
