General Discussion / Silver screens ( Reflextec )
January 03, 2018, 09:15:16 am
Silver screens.
Hi Boys & girls, I've made a couple of external silver screen covers for our RV which are snapped on & I would like to add one on the inside of the rear window, I was thinking magnetic tape would be good so as to get a nice 'seal' it's my side of the bed & gets a bit of a cold drop from the glass this time of year. I am not going into production on this it's a one off for us.

After suggestions on the magnetic tape there seems to be a plefora of weight/strenghts available.
Or other ideas come to that. I don't want to put this one on the outside as it's just something else to find storage space for.

Thanks

General Discussion / Headlining
September 22, 2017, 12:46:54 pm
I  have this customer, his boat is 10 years old & has alcantara covered headlining mostly on boards. This year the material went like bubbly in the heat of the summer ( most likely with the Aircon on as well) Now the weather has started to cool down they have all go flat & tight again !
Is there a cure for this ? Or is it just age of the glue/ break down of foam backing or something. ?

General Discussion / Heat / Sound insulation.
June 30, 2017, 07:02:33 am
Hi all, as you may know I don't do car's, I do the floaty things for a job.
So I have a question for you, we are renovating a 1996 Roadtrek RV, Dodge ram 5200 for ourselves. On our first small trip we found out how hot the floor gets, most of it. Having ripped some of the carpet out it turns out that there is no insulation under the carpet anywhere.
What would you suggest we put down onto the metal parts of the chassis to reduce the heat transfer.
Bear in mind we are in Europe so please don't quote your local suppliers..  ;)

Thanks.

General Discussion / Welting cord !
December 28, 2016, 02:26:58 am
Why do they put a hole in the middle of the packaging box if you aren't supposed to use it  >:(
I just started a 75m run of welting when I realised the cord was all curling up behind me. Cut it off & opened the box, then spend the rest of my life untangling 100m of cord. Yes if I had another box that would have gone flying into the dark recesses of the shop, but I didn't.

Grrr won't be doing that again.

I have a few small chairs with loose cushions, the backs have 5 buttons on the front & 5 on the back which are somehow connected to the front one's.

General Discussion / Need help from the car guys.
October 10, 2016, 03:10:05 pm
I have been looking for replacement seat covers for our Renault van. Now searching for skins just isn't working & replacement covers just comes up with the cheapo loose covers.
I don't want some high end fancy covers, just replacements for the worn out factory fits.
What should I be looking for guys ?
BTW think UK or Europe.

Gracias.

General Discussion / Summer has arrived.
August 01, 2016, 02:35:27 am
We just hit the 40'C, s here in Sunny Alicante, it's nasty working in the marina in this heat coupled with high humidity you just can't drink enough water, it just rolls straight back out as sweat. Roll on the winter.

Least I can hide in the shop most days while my OH melts on the boats.

General Discussion / Any body repaired a tennis net ?
January 23, 2015, 08:33:19 am
I am told that the stitching along the top has rotten away. Haven't seem it yet, I was wondering how thick the netting will be & if it will fit under the foot ?

General Discussion / Dodger windows again ( sorry )
December 18, 2014, 06:30:44 am
I know we have talked about this before, but I am darned if I can find the thread....
I am about to hit the key & buy another roll of clear vinyl.
Now one of the first rolls I every had was called crystal clear 20/20 @ 0.5mm. This was nice & clear & lasted well but seems to have dissappeared so I tried a taiwanese product which was 20thou = 0.5mm.  this is just ok, tends to be a bit swirly & a PITA to get off the roll.
So I am now looking at a product called Crystal view, which only comes in 10Thou = 0.5mm
My use is mainly for Dodgers which fold down & curtains that zip off.
The last 'sheets' I ordered where just called Crystal Clear, nice but the 'left covers' went all spotty in the tubes & unusable, my supplier insisted that it wiped off. It didn't & now they have stopped selling it.
They now sell a product called 'Ultra glass' very expensive & one the one job I used it on it shrank, a lot.
Strataglass doesn't like being folded down & of course there is the cost, a bit much for the run of the mill dodger :-)

So what do you all use ?

Thanks

General Discussion / First Sails & now frocks !
November 26, 2014, 08:48:49 am
Blimey I am getting some variety right now.
Just taken up my very first chiffon dress, chopped 5" off the bottom & rolled the edge. Scary stuff this chiffon, I think I would rather make a dodger, not so nerve wracking.

General Discussion / Help ! Sails.
November 05, 2014, 03:06:47 am
I don't normally touch any kind of sail work, I neither have the knowledge or the space, but this customer of mine has two sails that need the leach lines replacing. Does any body have any experience of doing this ?

Thanks

I wasn't even born & it chokes me up.

Personally I think we all need reminding.

General Discussion / Quick question on Phifertex.
May 13, 2014, 07:33:40 am
Is it suitable for the underside of outside cushions ( boats ) with vinyl tops.
I usually use a product simply called drain cloth, but I have a chance to add some phifertex to another order.
I know it gets mentioned here from time to time but I have never used it.
Its considerably cheaper than my regular product.

General Discussion / 'New' style sunpads.
May 07, 2014, 01:25:57 am
Has any body seem these sunpads in the flesh ?

Customer is having his boat refurbished & likes the look of these, he calls them planks.
Looks like the 'planks' are pretty deep any suggestions on how to make them up ?

General Discussion / Pulpit seating!
May 06, 2014, 08:18:02 am
I have a customer asking about this great idea he's  ::) had to make a cushioned seat fixed to the pulpit on his motor boat ( sealine) so he can sit & chat to the girls lying about on the forward sunpads.

Any one done anything like this ?   I will get a picture of the bow later on.

General Discussion / Quick question on NAP.
February 17, 2014, 05:18:57 am
Hi guys & gals.
Just received some material & was surprised to find it has a nap to it.
So question is, I am correct in thinking that it should smooth down as you sit on it ?
It's for some boat cushions so just has bases & backs, no arms or complicated real upholstery stuff.
Which way should it run on the backs, brush downwards ?

Thanks.

I just finished a rush job and bought myself a foam saw to celebrate.
Not a frock, a hair do or a meal out.  A blinking saw, I ask you.  ???

Thanks Ken.  ;)

General Discussion / Stainless steel grub screws ?
October 28, 2013, 02:10:31 am
Stainless steel grub screws for canopy fittings, they are probably imperial & in more than one size, any ideas where you can buy them loose ?

They are like hens teeth over here.
