General Discussion / Dodger windows again ( sorry )
December 18, 2014, 06:30:44 am
I know we have talked about this before, but I am darned if I can find the thread....
I am about to hit the key & buy another roll of clear vinyl.
Now one of the first rolls I every had was called crystal clear 20/20 @ 0.5mm. This was nice & clear & lasted well but seems to have dissappeared so I tried a taiwanese product which was 20thou = 0.5mm.  this is just ok, tends to be a bit swirly & a PITA to get off the roll.
So I am now looking at a product called Crystal view, which only comes in 10Thou = 0.5mm
My use is mainly for Dodgers which fold down & curtains that zip off.
The last 'sheets' I ordered where just called Crystal Clear, nice but the 'left covers' went all spotty in the tubes & unusable, my supplier insisted that it wiped off. It didn't & now they have stopped selling it.
They now sell a product called 'Ultra glass' very expensive & one the one job I used it on it shrank, a lot.
Strataglass doesn't like being folded down & of course there is the cost, a bit much for the run of the mill dodger :-)

So what do you all use ?

Thanks
Suzi

The only machine I have to do it with is the overlocker, after removing the fear factory ie: ironing in the new hem line, it wasn't to bad. First time I ever used the rolled hem on the machine, looks good.

Quoteno need to ask where the bubbles come from

HELLO  he's a scuba diver---he'll just rig up some old second stage regulators to free-flow.DUH! [cheesy].

What scares me is what he and Hank build for a DYI compressor to fill those 3000 psi tanks. [roll eyes]LOL

Really, there I was thinking beans would do it.

Blimey I am getting some variety right now.
Just taken up my very first chiffon dress, chopped 5" off the bottom & rolled the edge. Scary stuff this chiffon, I think I would rather make a dodger, not so nerve wracking.

Luv it, no need to ask where the bubbles come from.  :-)

Know what you mean bobbin, but I thought this would be ok as it's just down one edge.
Any thing else is a straight no no.  :-)

Thanks Carol, just trying to source the cord locally. Fortunatly the old line is still in place, but needs replacing as it gets stuck, probably down to a couple of wear holes through the edging. Didn't think of the batten pockets, I better go have another look at the sail now.
I was going to use the V92 Uv antiwick thread, which I use on most of my marine jobs. Yes I have the Monster wheel :-)

Thanks Bob, I have now looked at one of the sails & I think the edge binding needs replacing. The line is not broken but it's jamming in the sleave.
Doesn't look to painful a job & I think my Sailrite should be able to handle the zig zag.

I don't normally touch any kind of sail work, I neither have the knowledge or the space, but this customer of mine has two sails that need the leach lines replacing. Does any body have any experience of doing this ?

Thanks

Hey yesterday we saw off the guys & girls on the Volvo Ocean Race from Alicante, bit of a slow start because there wasn't much wind.
Next stop CAPE TOWN.
Good luck guys.

General Discussion / Re: Hobbies / Passions Anyone ??
September 25, 2014, 01:55:40 am
I like to get out & play on the motorbike.
Passion, mountain hiking in the summer when we can get away to cooler climes. Sailing given the chance, which is pretty rare these days.

Hobbies, trying to grow my own vegetables it's a bit of a challenge with the summer heat & the strong winds we get here.
Like June I do actually like sewing but enjoy doing anything other than paid work, little bits & bobs so I don't get bored :-)  Love playing with the embroidery machine but it's soooo time consuming.
Just dusted off the pushbike so that might be a new one as the weather cools off.
