One more foam cutting option I learned about on this site-A band saw. It has become one of the most useful machines in my shop, cutting foam, wood and plastic.  I use it to cut angles (wedge shapes) that are next to impossible to do even with the Bosch cutter. Mine is a JET brand with the optional extension block which allows the use of a 105" blade (12" thickness capacity). The only drawback is that the throat depth limits how far into the foam you can cut.

65Buick, cut your pieces a little smaller, you have too much bulk at the corners and the foam is not filling the cover sufficiently.

Grebo, the pads look good, a heat gun will eliminate the need to make all those cuts on the bottom. Not knowing the whole job, I can't say for sure, but you might not have to be leaving so much excess underneath either. You may be able to staple closer to the edge and trim the excess.

Sorry, I haven't been on here as much lately, but it's not because I'm on FB or any other upholstery related site, I really have been busy. With business and personal things. Actually, I'm a Facebook dropout, like Darren said, if I want to know what someone cooked for supper, I'll call them (that's a lie, I won't do that either, I don't really care).

I hope this site continues to operate because it's civil and I know I've picked up a few things I've found useful.

Played fine for me (I'm actually surprised since this computer doesn't usually do that).
Gene, how have you used that laser marker? I got mine at Harbor Freight recently and used it as a guide for my sewing machine. Looks like a decent piece.

I've been called the vinyl man, it used to affect the thoughts I had about who and what I was, but these days I say as long as I'm doing an honest day's work and they pay their bills, I don't care what name they give me.

Doesn't having the government this involved make more work for government agencies? Seems to me the only ones getting an "insurance benefit" is the Federal government. It gets bigger, we get smaller.

One thing I can add is something I learned from an older gentleman I employed many years ago to run my office. He was retired from his own men's sore business and he always told me that it was better to tell the customer up front the job will take longer than we would actually expect it to. He said a customer is always happier to have his job back sooner than promised than later and this method insured that.
There are any number of issues that can delay the completion time and it's best to build them in from the beginning.

Thanks for the details Kody, it's amazing how much difference there is from one part of the country to another, but certainly understandable.
Thinking about your wording " in one 9 hour day" I'm thinking you probably meant that you got them all done in a single day full of telephone calls, speaking with customers, writing up invoices etc. because I don't think you meant each chair took 2-1/4 hours of hands-on labor to complete.

I did the four in the bottom picture in one 9 hour day. The first one came out too loose and had to be redone.

Just curious kody, you had mentioned that you charge $75.00 each, was that 9 hour day all labor? That's only $33.00/hour for the four you did.
seems like you could be making more per hour doing something else, no?

Check out products like Dyna Mat or similar. Mainly for sound insulation, but I think if it has a foil back, heat insulation as well. The jute described by Darren (some with a foil lining for extra heat insulation) over that and you should be good to go.

Photobucket used to be a pretty good place to store and share photos, but lately it's become so bogged down with ads, it's almost unusable. If anyone has found a better site, I'd be interested to hear about it. Kody might be also.
