There's another forum I visit on another topic entirely, and the admin has stopped accepting new folks for awhile because he said he was getting hit with too many spams coming out of Russia.

We won the cold war but they seem to be winning the spam war.

Chris,

We don't talk about feeling like an idiot on this forum since we have all been there. For some of us at least once. For others, well...

I always tell my kids, "Isn't it interesting how doing something is a lot easier when you know how to do it?"

We've talked about adhesives on this forum before.

I saw a documentary about adhesives. You can glue 2 pieces of steel together and the glue joint is stronger than the steel, just like a wood joint.

Adhesives are used in most surgeries.

I use New Skin on my cuts and dried skin cracks. I think it's basically super glue with an antibiotic in it.

I staple welt cord to my cornice boards. I had someone show me how they glue it using fabric adhesive. More and more window treatment shops seem to be using glues to replace staples and some sewing.

Home Depot has double sided carpet tape. It is being sold as a replacement for tack strips and a knee kicker. There is no way wall to wall carpet will last with double sided tape. Even if the tape holds, you are unable to stretch the carpet in laying it down. And you will not be able to restretch the carpet in the future. This is an example of "yes it sticks, but it's not the correct application for the job."

I agree with Grebo: Who wants to be the first one to find out that it does not work? But then, what if it does???

The entire boat is held together with adhesives. I don't see why, with the right adhesive, that this thing wouldn't work better than, or as good as, a metal connector.

Keith,

I said "potato chips", not "saw dust".

:D

John O'Reilly hoisted his beer and said, "Here's to  spending the rest of me life,
between the  legs of me darlin' wife!"

That won him the top prize at the pub for the best toast of the  night!

He went home and told his wife,  Mary, "I won the prize for the Best toast of the  night."

She said, "Aye, did ye now. And what  was your toast?" John said, "Here's  to  spending the rest of me life, sitting in church  beside me wife."

"Oh, that is very nice  indeed, John!" Mary said.

The next day,  Mary ran into one of John's drinking buddies on  the street corner.
The man chuckled  leeringly and said, "John won the prize the  other night at the pub with a toast about  you, Mary."

She said, "Aye, he told me,  and I was a bit surprised myself. You know, he's only been in there twice in the last four years. Once he fell asleep, and the other time I had to pull him by the ears to make him  come."

Let's take the average sofa at $1,000. The average chair at $500.

You do an equal number of both. To have 1 million in gross sales would take:

500 sofas and 1000 chairs.

How many upholsterers would it take? How big of a facility would you need? Where would that kind of volume come from?

60% gross profit margin?

I've never used your type, Scarab29.

MinUph: The yellow handled one you show a picture of is the one that I use the most. I have several different types. When people prep furniture for me they all like that one best also.

I found it in a sofa about 2 years ago. I do not feel sorry for whoever left it in there because he/she also left potato chips under the new fabric.

Very nice! The skirt also looks great.

I'm finding that speed only comes with doing more.

Hey,

There's only one hoop they want their vendors to jump through: lower your prices.

Those types of forums are to discuss (pressure) vendors into lowing their prices. The company usually wants them to come up with creative ways to do this. Actually, sometimes they actually come up with some awesome ideas.

Small vendors, like yourself, usually aren't affected by this. You are usually not even expected to attend. What is your annual billing? How much is 10% of that? Enough to get them excited?

You may want to follow up with your contact at the company after the forum just to make sure that they haven't found that the vegetable supplier also does booth upholstery.

Good luck. Every dollar helps.

How to Use This Forum / Re: Spam Spam Spam!

"Spammier" is the correct word.

Spammers spawn spam.

Spammers spam. Spammers get SPAMMIER. Sneakers sneak. Sneakers get SNEAKIERER. Many folks get the two words confused.

And in case you are wondering, no, I was never an English teacher.

You can try a glue stick - the kind for paper. I use this for matching seams. They are in that round tube dispenser that you twist and the stick comes out. I like the purple glue for some reason. Run the stick down the center of the folded fabric. Press it together and let it dry.

You can also try a very small stitch length and a slow sewing speed.

If there was an easy answer to your question I wouldn't cringe every time this topic comes up.

good luck.

Did you know that it was originally called EGG NAUG? Now you know why the name was changed to NOG. No one wanted to drink it knowing what it was made of. Ignorance is bliss!

It's just like RUMP ROAST. I once asked a butcher why it was called 'rump roast'. He said because no one would buy it if it was called "ass meat"!

Wow! You learn something new everyday.

I had been told, and obviously I had been wrongly told, that "naug" was not a noun, but a verb. The material in question is made by a process where one would "naug a hide".

The process of nauging involves applying specific chemicals that react to each other and whatever specific animal hide you are working with. In order to get different colors, you just use different animal hides.

I can't believe how gullable I can be sometimes. I'm just too willing to trust anyone.
