General Discussion / Re: Stapler Recomendation
December 10, 2010, 08:46:52 am
Several members have bought from this Ebay merchant and found good prices on repaired/reconditioned BEA & Bostich staplers, the 1/2" is used more for vinyl and the 3/8" for cloth:

P.S. - I don't think you want any models that say "autofire"

General Discussion / Mooring cover for Pontoon
December 09, 2010, 06:35:23 pm
I'm planning on doing a mooring cover for my 24-foot pontoon, something I never have done before. Needless to say I plan on seeking out some 2nd's, as I don't want to waste too much on this learning experience. I've seen many covers made with 60" widths of fabric running from side to side, wouldn't it be easier to have two runs of fabric the length of the boat with a seam in the middle? Any input would be appreciated.

I had several paragraphs written on depression and I erased them, In short my wife suffers from depression. My wife is lucky after many years of less than perfect care with the aid of a very caring neurologist she became the patient of a doctor at a regional medical center in a city about an hour away, although not cured she is doing well. Many other people in our area and around the country aren't as lucky as a nationwide shortage of Psychiatrists exists, in our area 21 Psychiatrists serve 325,000 patients. No relief is insight as nationwide only 900 residency slots exist for new psychiatrists yearly and most of those new psychiatrists migrate to large cities leaving patients in less densely populated cities and rural areas to fen for themselves. I know of no doctors in this area taking new patients! Not only the patients without doctors are affected but also many people are being under served (not seeing a doctor as often as required to properly treat their illness). WE HAVE A SERIOUS PROBLEM PEOPLE!

     * Many of the above quoted facts came from our local Gannet newspaper.

I agree with Chris Bob Kovar at Toledo Sewing Machine Company who I've had the most dealings with or for that matter Gregg at Keystone Sewing Machine Company who's also been a great help to myself and a lot of members of this board are the two most recommended sources for a new machine at a fair price. Just remember the cheapest price isn't always the best deal, many people have gotten burnt buying on Ebay if for only the simple fact that often not much service after the sale comes along. When I had problems with an old 111W153 Singer that I bought from a private party online Bob and his son lead me through set up and repairs, even taught me how to time the machine over the telephone, now you tell me how to find that kind of service on Ebay! The Chandler that Chris mentioned I'm sure would be a good choice, also the Highlead, Juki, Consew, and Sieko. I myself have a Pfaff 1245 That I purchased used from the University of Wisconsin for a song and Bob Kovar helped with the few parts needed to put it in tip top shape. Hope my ramblings helped more than they hurt.

Chris:
I make no claims as to being an expert but the input I've gotten here that has worked for me is cut vinyl slightly undersized (1/2 to 1') due to the stretch factor and then add the seam allowance, so in short pretty much the same as you said.

I hope that this Christmas season finds you in as good of health as can be expected.

Sofadoc;

Most of those bid sniping programs have an option to shorten up the time before the end of the auction and when it bids, I use Quick Snipe (quicksnipe.com) and it works that way. The idea is to screw the time down lower than the other guy maybe 7 seconds or so, no guaranties!

General Discussion / Sad News
October 26, 2010, 05:11:18 pm

I have some very sad news out of Duluth, Minnesota this morning to share with you.  This will bring about change in North & South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa and parts of Canada.  This will bring far reaching ramifications that will strike at the very core of our Midwest Heritage and Souls.

I must report the tragic news that OLE was SHOT.  He was up by the Canadian border on his 4 Wheeler cutting some trees when some rangers looking for Terrorists spotted him.  According to the news reports, the Rangers shouted to him over a loudspeaker, "Who are you and what are you doing?"
    OLE shouted back, "OLE.....BIN LOGGIN!"
OLE is survived by his wife LENA and good friend SVEN.
Note: You've got to be from the Midwest to understand this one.

I use a 1/2" stapler I bought from Harbor Freight for $12, and haven't had any problems. I now see the price has gone to about $20 on the stapler but it's still a good deal!

Anyone ever here of a Stager Model #SZ-21-1N Sewing Machine, and know what the specs are? it has a 1/2 hp 1750 RPM motor and from the picture I've seen it isn't compound feed.

I'm not sure but it sounds a lot like when the safety clutch on my 1245 Pfaff disengaged, check it out!
