General Discussion / Very Important
December 27, 2016, 12:37:01 pm
I just thought I'd get on my soap box for a moment; about 12 weeks ago I had a colonoscopy and they discovered CANCER, then 8 weeks ago I had surgery and two surgeons in a 2 1/2 hour operation removed the portion of my colon that was affected, luckily it was discovered early enough and I'm free of cancer and no need for chemo or radiation  Please if you or a loved one are told to get a colonoscopy screening by all means don't blow it off as many people do because they feel it's uncomfortable or embarrassing! The prep isn't nearly as bad as some make it out to be and with the use of "Twilight Sleep" anesthesia you sleep right thru it waking minutes later. BigJohn/ John Panosh

General Discussion / INR Test Meter
March 04, 2015, 08:32:37 pm
I'm sorry this is off topic but I fell it will be of help to any of you taking blood thinners and needing to test your INR (how thick or thin your blood is.

Anyone interested in purchasing a Roche Coagucheck INR test meter I'd be happy to share information about my positive experience purchasing a brand new meter on Ebay. My insurance wouldn't pay for a meter and I'm out of network while I'm doing the snowbird thing in the winter so I now do my own testing and the anti-coagulation service and my doctor at the clinic I use back in Wisconsin monitor my results and make any adjustments to my meds that are needed. I paid $720 for the meter and all the supplies needed for the first year of testing, after that it should cost me about $250 a year for supplies. Posted by; John Panosh

General Discussion / We had a head on accident!
December 13, 2013, 02:29:06 am
Hi;
Pat and I had a head on accident about 8:00 this evening on Sun valley Parkway about 2/3rds of the way home from dinner out in Surprise AZ with our good friends Carla and Aaron, an 88 year old gentleman driving on the wrong side of a divided 4 lane highway came out of nowhere and despite me taking evasive action I was only able to get about 2/3rds to 3/4s out of the way! Our 2004 Deville is history the left front wheel ended up pushing against my left big toe and the steel that the door mounts to was pushed in in such a way that it did damage to my knee. The left rear corner of the hood came through the windshield and ended up about 10 inches from my face, they had to take me out using the jaws of life, Pats side wasn't hurt as bad but the air bags did damage to her chest bruising a lung and causing them to keep her in the hospital for fear of a collapsed lung. The 88 year old man was in and out of consciousness and fear that he wasn't going to survive caused the police to follow the helicopter to the hospital to do a more intensive investigation including sending someone to our hospital to do a breathalyzer test on me that came up as: 0.00 ! We both are on some heavy duty industrial strength drugs for our present and future pain. Please Pray with & for both Pat and I as well as the 88 year old man who as of right now I don't know of his condition. Thanks in advance!

General Discussion / Broken no sag spring
September 03, 2013, 10:13:08 am
My favorite Lane recliner has a broken no sag/ zig zag spring. I plopped my big fat a** down in it too hard one too many times and and one of the 4 or 5 strips of zig zag spring broke. Now keep in mind this is at the cottage and we prescribe to the "good enough for up north" philosophy around here, do I have to replace all the springs or just the one that broke and even more up north ish could I just make a repair by clamping a new section of spring on to the broken end to make it whole again?

General Discussion / Machine service in Phoenix
August 19, 2013, 09:09:10 pm
As I have said in the past we moved to the West Valley of Phoenix area this past October from our long time home in Central Wisconsin and for the past several months we have been at the cottage on Pelican Lake in Northern Wisconsin. When I return to AZ  in a few weeks I will have to seek out a sewing machine mechanic to time and generally tune up my 1245 Pfaff so I can get busy and get a few projects done. Can anyone recommend someone in my area?

As you read this keep in mind I'm from Wisconsin and just retired to Arizona;

> > > FOUR RETIREES VISIT A BAR > >
> Four old retired men are walking down a street in Yuma, Arizona. They turn a corner and see a sign that says, "Old Timers Bar - ALL > Drinks 10 cents."  They look at each other and then go in, thinking this is too good to be true.  The old bartender says in a voice that carries across the room, "Come  on in and let me pour one for you!  What'll it be, gentlemen?"  There's a fully stocked bar, so each of the men orders a martini.  In no time the bartender serves up four iced martinis shaken, not  stirred and says, "That'll be 10 cents each, please."  The four guys stare at the bartender for a moment, then at each other.  They can't believe their good luck.  They pay the 40 cents, finish their martinis, and order another round.  Again, four excellent martinis are produced, with the bartender again  saying, "That's 40 cents, please."  They pay the 40 cents, but their curiosity gets the better of them.  They've each had two martinis and haven't even spent a dollar yet.  Finally one of them says, "How can you afford to serve martinis as  good as these for a dime apiece?"  "I'm a retired tailor from Phoenix," the bartender says, "and I always > wanted to own a bar.  Last year I hit the Lottery Jackpot for $125 million and decided to  open this place. Every drink costs a dime. Wine, liquor, beer it's all  the same."  "Wow! That's some story!" one of the men says.  As the four of them sip at their martinis, they can't help noticing  seven other people at the end of the bar who don't have any drinks in  front of them and haven't ordered anything the whole time they've been  there.  Nodding at the seven at the end of the bar, one of the men asks the Bartender, "What's with them?"  The bartender says, "They're retired people from Wisconsin. They're  waiting for Happy Hour when drinks are half-price, plus they all have  coupons..."

Well I'm not to 2 houses and an RV like Chris but we sold our Central Wisconsin home this past July and have been living in our cottage/park model "Up North" at Pelican Lake Wisconsin. Last week we bid on a foreclosure from HUD In Buckeye Arizona, it's very near Sun City and is just outside of the White Tank Mountain Regional Park. Just a modest 5 year old 2 bedroom and a den with an attached two car garage. We did pretty well on it, because it's a two bedroom and a ways out from downtown Phoenix, Homes are selling briskly now and the foreclosure deals are beginning to be a thing of the past but we lucked out on this one and paid just over half the new price 5 years ago! The deal was sweet but don't forget HUD is a federal agency so the paper work is astronomical, 15 page contract, 3 pages of forms to get permission to turn on the utilities to do a home inspection, and the list goes on, but in the end when its -25 in Wisconsin and +70 in Arizona it will be worth it!

Now comes the problem does the Phaff go in the garage or do you think it's more suited to the den/office, you can imagine my wife's position on the matter.

THE BLONDE WHO  HUNTED ALLIGATORS:

A  BLONDE  JOKE THAT YOU'VE NEVER HEARD  BEFORE

After  becoming very frustrated with the attitude of one of the shopkeepers, the young blonde  declared, 'Well,  then, maybe I'll just
go out and catch my own alligator  and get a pair of alligator shoes for free!'

The  shopkeeper replied with a sly smile, 'Well, little  lady, why don't you go give it a try?'

The  blonde headed off to the  swamp, determined to  catch an alligator. Later in the  day, the  shopkeeper was driving home, and
spotted the young woman  standing waist deep in the murky water, shotgun in  hand.

He saw a huge 9-foot gator  swimming
rapidly  toward her. With lightning reflexes, the blond took aim, shot the creature and hauled it up onto the slippery  bank.

Nearby were 7 more dead gators all lying  belly up. The shopkeeper watched in amazement as the  blond struggled with the gator.

Then, rolling  her eyes, she screamed in   frustration......

Sono******h!! THIS ONE'S  BAREFOOT,   TOO!

A Golf Story

Jim stood over his tee shot on the 450-yard 18th hole for what seemed an eternity.

He waggled, looked up, looked down, waggled again, but didn't start his back swing.   Finally his exasperated partner asked, 'What the hell is taking so long?'

'My wife is watching me from the clubhouse balcony,' Jim explained. 'I want to make a perfect shot.'

His companion said, 'You don't have a chance in hell of hitting her from here.'

Smokey Brisket

1)    3 ½ - 4 pound beef brisket

½ cups bottled chili sauce

2 TBS liquid smoke

1 TBS steak seasoning ( I use McCormick Montreal )

1TBS Worcestershire sauce

1tsp garlic salt

1 ounce dried morel mushrooms, optional. I do not use them.

2 large onions coarsely chopped. Don't use them either!

12 ounce bottle of beer or 1 ½ cups apple juice or cider. I use beer!

1 ½ cups bottled barbecue sauce.  I use  KC Masterpiece original

Ciabatta rolls or French rolls or whatever you want.

Trim fat from brisket. Place meat in a large zip top bag that is set in a large dish. In a small bowl combine chili sauce, liquid smoke, steak seasoning, Worcestershire sauce and garlic salt. Spread over meat covering all sides well. Seal bag and marinate 8-24 hours. I do 24.

If using the dried morels, cover with hot water and let stand for 20 minutes. Drain and rinse twice. Squeeze out excess moisture, and slice.

Transfer brisket and marinade to a roasting pan. Top with mushrooms and onions. Pour beer over.

Cover with foil and bake at 325 for 4½ hours or till tender. Uncover, pour barbecue sauce over meat. Bake uncovered another 30 -40 minutes or till sauce is hot Remove meat and slice and put back into sauce.

Serve on rolls.

Enjoy

Hot Beef Sandwiches

3-4 pound rump roast or sirloin tip
1 package Italian salad dressing mix (dry)
1 package Au Jus Gravy mix (dry)
1 can beef broth.
put roast in crock pot.
Mix other ingredients together and pour over roast.
Cover and cook on low 8-10 hours. Turn roast over half way through.
When done, remove roast and shred. Return roast to juices. ( I take some of the juice out for dipping) Serve on crusty rolls or ciabatta rolls.

This is soooo good. So easy.
Enjoy

General Discussion / Dear Santa
December 20, 2011, 01:47:08 pm
Dear Santa,

I don't want much for Christmas, I just want the person reading this to
be happy. Friends are the fruit cake of life --- some nutty, some soaked
in alcohol, some sweet but mix them together and they're my friends . At
Christmas you always hear people talking about what they want & bought.
This is what I want: I want people who are sick with no cure, to be
cured. I want children with no families to be adopted. I want people to
never have to worry about food, shelter & heat. I want peace on earth,
goodwill and love for everyone!
