I don't use many buttons ( normally) but bought the button press mainly due to not being able to get them made locally.
Which has opened up a few extra jobs simply because I have what other shops don't. Plus I have since added the dies for 3 grommet sizes which I do use a far bit.
It does sit idle most of the time but the convenience is well worth it.

Yes I remember that well, like wise, since then I keep a small tool kit right by the main machine & basic screw drivers by the others.

Had my finger 'pinched' a few times by the walking foot, scares the **** out me every time.

Speaking of safety does anyone remember when June ran her fingers under the foot of her machine ? She posted a pic of her finger and the needle stuck in it. That photo left a lasting impression on me and it is why I have a tool pouch hanging on every machine in our shop. To remove the foot in the event it happens to me or someone else.
It does no good to have tools 3 ft away when your hand is mated to your machine.

I have ran my finger against the foot numerous times and causes an instant moment of shear panic. The foot hits your finger and it scares the hell out of you.

if Alcantara is the stuff I'm thinking of * I've seen it fail as auto headling in that ten year time. The dense foam backing just turned to dust.

* The stuff I'm thinking of is sold here for auto headliners. It's about 3-4 mm (3/16") thick with a velour type fabric and dense foam  rubber backing.

Similar, more like a suede finish & foam backed I believe, boat is in France not local to me.
Foam backings often turn to dust here, I guess heat & age.

My first 'proper' foam saw was from here, the eze. Does a great job keeping edges straight compared to an carving knife  ;D
Used it for a few years until a bosch fell into my lap, what a different beast that is hardly any 'crumbs' smooth & much easier to control.
Bosch every time but the Eze is a good inbetween until you find one.

I  have this customer, his boat is 10 years old & has alcantara covered headlining mostly on boards. This year the material went like bubbly in the heat of the summer ( most likely with the Aircon on as well) Now the weather has started to cool down they have all go flat & tight again !
Is there a cure for this ? Or is it just age of the glue/ break down of foam backing or something. ?

I still find the Sunbrella cushion grade to be one of the best, colour retention is excellent.
I've had some customers want a colour change & the old skins are still as good as new after a few seasons of mediterranean sun.

We are actually getting quite a few Dodge parts from Rock auto, I guess they might have something as well.

Lots to look at there, thank you all, will go off googling now.

I've done the same as gene or:
If customer doesn't want zippers, options. Velcro or find some sympathetic material & make into envelopes. Original material stays on show & use the other for the tucked under bit.

Hi all, as you may know I don't do car's, I do the floaty things for a job.
So I have a question for you, we are renovating a 1996 Roadtrek RV, Dodge ram 5200 for ourselves. On our first small trip we found out how hot the floor gets, most of it. Having ripped some of the carpet out it turns out that there is no insulation under the carpet anywhere.
What would you suggest we put down onto the metal parts of the chassis to reduce the heat transfer.
Bear in mind we are in Europe so please don't quote your local suppliers..  ;)

No one's every asked me, my two dogs wonder in when they feel like it, usually sleep on their own 'day' beds.
I do try to keep the cat out though, he always heads for the finished work which is a definate no no.
