You know this is going to sound real stupid, but some of those awning rollers and tracks have a sheet metal screw that goes into the area with the spline in it to hold the fabric in place. Could the fabric caught up just a little on a not completely removed screw causing the damage you see?

I'm certainly not an expert but just an observation here: The thing I noticed in the pictures is that the puckering continues right thru the seam and matches up, this gives me the idea that it's caused by an outside influence since it would be almost impossible to sew two pieces together and have imperfections line up!

Yes Chris but that same importer deals in quantity on just several items not the broad spectrum of items that Bob or Gregg stock and sell. Yes they are hurt by that flash in the pan importer on a few items but Bob & Gregg still have a place in the market offering a full service supply house and service to back it up.

The computer age has made it much more obvious that merchants are seeking more than one market, we do a search and we find advertising that isn't aimed at us but yet it's hard to ignore a good deal as well as it's hard for a merchant to turn away a sale.

Wish I was close enough to take advantage of that $400 deal!

                              LET THE FIREWORKS BEGIN

The point I'd like to bring up is many people on this board started in upholstery without a tax number or business license as some refer to it, and many remain without a number paying tax as they go due to the small volume they do. Thru my past experience in another industry I was made aware of Blue. Green, and Buff price lists all with different mark ups and I'm sure a similar system is at work with many of our suppliers.

I'm against trying to regulate small upstarts and hobbyists out of existence but rather I believe a better way of competing is to offer a better quality product and knowledge than the other guy at a fair but not always a lower price. If demand for your professional services dwindles so low that you fear the addition of a moonlighter/part timer in your area will put you out of business then maybe it's time to diversify or move.

You can draw a line in the sand and try to deny your supplier the ability to make a living by blackballing them, but you'll only contribute to the further shrinking of the supply chain as fewer and fewer customers are available to them in this throw away society. This all goes back to much the same scenario as I posted about in the auto parts industry.

I'd like to hear from all the posters on this message, did you get a tax number before you started sewing and do you have one now?

Gregg sold me one that looked like that, it was called "Eagle" hence my post "The Eagle has Landed" when I received the eagerly awaited shipment from him. Unfortunately He stopped selling it several weeks later.

The same thing happened in the auto parts business, the service stations started to close do to U-pump it gas and the Auto Parts Jobbers had to look to the walk in do it your self market to fill that gap. Then came the discount auto parts stores catering to the retail trade but at a bigger discount, with tool loan programs, car care clinics, installation shops, and ect..

General Discussion / Week Starter Belly Laugh

Bill staggered home very late after another evening with his drinking buddy Sven. He took off his shoes to avoid waking his wife Lena. He tiptoed as quietly as he could toward the stairs leading to their upstairs bedroom, but misjudged the ...bottom step.
As he caught himself by grabbing the banister, his body swung around and he landed heavily on his rump. A whiskey bottle in each back pocket broke and made the landing especially painful.

Managing not to yell, Bill sprung up, pulled down his pants, and looked in the hall mirror to see that his butt cheeks were cut and bleeding. He managed to quietly find a full box of band-Aids and began putting a band-aid as best he could on each place he saw blood. He then hid the now almost empty band-aid box and shuffled and stumbled his way to bed. In the morning,

Bill woke up with searing pain in both his head and butt and Lena staring at him from across the room.

She said, "You were drunk again last night weren't you Bill?"
Bill said, "Why you say such a mean thing?"

"Well," Lena said, "it could be the open front door, it could be the broken glass at the bottom of the stairs, it could be the drops of blood trailing through the house, it could be your bloodshot eyes, but mostly...it's all those band-aids stuck on the hall mirror."

Chris:
With the wheeled table and the servo installed I'd be interested in seeing a picture of your "new family member".

Chris:
Did you get your new servo motor and how do you like it, I expect you got that new model with the gear reduction built in.

Bob Kovar at Toledo Sewing Machine is my preference for both sales and service but due to the long distance I would have to travel and the expense of freight both he and I realize a local mechanic makes more sense.

That would be great but I'm not sure I could afford that high a quality of workmanship! Maybe I'll just have to wait until the next time your in the area, the Air show is less than a year away!
