hiya

has anyone done the seating on a 2855 bayliner ?
my customer wants me to re-design his L shaped
bench seating to something nicer.

He wants me to make it a wrap around L shape seat
complete with the bayliner type cup holders. I will have to construct
the framework to do this as his backrests are supported with stainless tube
mounted on the hull.

Peppy

I've done those benches before. They can be built. It'd really speed things up if you had one near-by to copy. Just to get an idea for the angles and general shapes. It's not like they're dovetailed inside them but there are a lot of angles.

I'd guess at a week? Build/foam/cut/sew/upholster/install. The boss would probably say 3 days. And he would be right. Because I wouldn't tell him about the other 2 days I spent napping in the foam pile... I'm just kidding.

(I nap in the boats.)

hiya

It's a customer Mike, my step dads is a 2955 with a square C shape bench.

It's a 2001 model 2855, I have some pics but i think they are at my workshop
and i'm at home today. I'll post them up tomorrow.

What the customer is after is something like the C shaped bench seats with
a built up backrest and a triangular piece in the corner of the L so i can put
cup holders in there.

I thought I had a picture but I only have this...

...a half rotten one in pattern mode. And this...

...almost the same idea but from a Cadorette.

hey peppy thats the idea , I'm not sure he's willing to spend a fortune
but a simplified version of the second pic you posted will be close.

i did find this which should keep the cost down

http://www.indycovers.com/images/1989Bayliner3.jpg

how many hours did you invest in the bottom one ? bet you can't remember heheh

Oh yes i got it wrong the boat is a 2755 not a 2855.

I just love those abused seats don't you mike, they make a total
mess of your bench and you can't charge the customer the couple of
hours it takes to clean up ...

Mike8560

That pix rich looks lime my Buddys 27 bayliner would you have to build a base also?

fragged8

hiya guys

I just found this on a 2455.
http://baylinerownersclub.org/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=32689

there is some stuff on the owners site for the 2755 but i can't get my
access approved yet :-(

spoke to the owner today and he wants soft squishy seats with some colour
like peppy's green/green stripes. I'm thinking knee roll bases using a nice soft
foam on top of some firmer seating foam. ?

this is the area to work with, he wants to lose the stainless backrest and have
a more Bayliner type seat. I've never made bench construction like that so this will
be interesting. And he's upped his budget  :P

I haven't asked him yet but i'm looking at something like this .

Mike8560

id make somthing tike your last pix rich my bayliner had somthing simm on the bridge the v=base i see is the glass roof over the aft cabing i woulder if you can find a place to srew  in from down there i see you vold from the locker ?

Hiya

i think that last seat will do it , i just need to work out the frame.

I love the Trophy Mike . we are starting to see more of those over here
those Polar 23's are floating my boat at the moment. I like the coloured hulls
but i dont expect theres much difference between the Bayliner Trophy and the
Polars or Grady white is there ?

should have searched this board :-)

I think it was in the 2 1/2 day area Rich. Strip/pattern/cut/sew/upholster. I'd add 2 days? for wood and foam. I'm not good at estimates, I'm a good over-compensator. The trick will be building something that's comfortable. I'd do like Bayliner with the seperate 'lumbar cushion' screwing into the back. Then in the seat only stretchers/listings not that back tacking mess you see in some of them.

I like those Trophy's. Nice boats. You know. For a Bayliner

A here you. Go pep the old bagliner stuff ;)
I agree they did cut allot of corners early 80s  but still had mercruiser parts like the rest.
Here's is my last bay a 3218 I had to sell her because of a bridge where I moved
