How would you do this?

How would be the best way to attach the fabric back on these?    It looks like they might be grommetted and screwed thru the grommet?

Im going to suggest the top brace is some how removed and canvas is slid over.

They are probably screwed on with screws and decorative washers. Give the pic a few seconds to load.

Double hem the sides. Screw through the double hem after punching a hole first. Pull taut, do not taunt.

The top brace is probably a part of the wood frame and does nothing for the back fabric panel, other than keeping folks from leaning too far back because if you do your head or shoulders will hit it.

Aha, Gene, you might be right.    I'm sure the back brace is to keep the back legs from bowing in and/or breaking.   I think these chairs come apart and the base nests inside the back.

Here's another plan with a slatted back, but I thought the fabric would be more compact and lighter.   Been wanting to build a set of these for a long time.

ive seen a number of director's chairs they usually have pockets around the wood

yeah, they have others ones like that.   Having spent most of my life in engineering and the rest of it fixing stuff, "Design it to be repairable," is high on my list.

This one looks like you can unscrew the slats, assuming you don't glue them together (which you probably should)
