A friend of mine is downsizing his home & shop and gave me this tool.   I'm really excited because I've wanted one but hever had one.   Any guesses what it is?

A wood lathe?  But it's on the wrong axis.  A vertical wood lathe?

A state spindle sander. Nice.
Use to do a lot of work on those, when I was still in the model making trade.

You cannot purchase a used oscillating spindle sander working or not for under $ 500.00.  I'd rather have this old one than a brand new one by steel city or jet

Wow.....One very old but cool spindle sander. :)

I have a newer version and they are great to have when sanding inside circles or on radiuses.

Id like to see how it works in my youger day i worked in a office furniture shop desks counters ect. And all we had was a drum sander for this.

Mike:

The one I have has a round drum sander and it spins but also oscillates up and down. Some just spin.

They are the cats meow when working on wood that has radiuses or you need to sand inside a circle.
The drums come in different widths.
