With seat heaters, coolers, lumbar and back supports and even massagers found in today's car seats, it seems like auto upholsterers will soon have to become certified electricians in order to fix a simple cigarette burn. Well, it's about to get even more complicated. Cadillac has just announced that its 2013 XTS and ATS sedans, as well as its SRX crossover, will feature vibrating driver seats.

OK, Mike, I couldn't help myself...  I'll try to keep it somewhat professional  ;D

Caddy Buyer: "So, what type of new features does this new XTS have?"
Salesman: "Well, Bob, I've got one I know your wife will like!  Ma'am, why don't you have a seat right here!"

i had an 82 eldo. with the v8 that shut down to 4 cylinders to save gas it had the computor telling you how great the mpg was trouble was come to a incline and you steped opn the gas and all 8 turne on again i didnt see that it was all the economical

kodydog

Could you feel the difference when it changed from one to the other.

They still make cars that do that. I have a friend that just bought a Ram truck that runs on less cylinders on the highway.

I had a Caravan that the A/C would lose power when you hit the gas. Something happens on my E-150 when I give it gas, its not a down shift but something turns off, not sure what.

Cody,

It could be a vacuum system issue.  I have a Camaro that when you accelerate it quits blowing air and then comes back after you let up off the gas.  I've traced it back to a vacuum leak... somewhere.

Thanks Andrew, I do need to track down some vacuum lines. The switch that changes the air flow from defrost to floor to vent stopped working. Stays on defrost all the time. Gerrrr!

I have a customer who I haven't heard from for awhile. He came to my studio today driving his new Porsche Carrera, convertible. I guess he's doing OK.

QUALITY DOES NOT COST, IT PAYS!

Yep, Kody, the vacuum system controls the airflow system in most cars from the 70's through late 90's (when electronic solenoids & relays took over).  Often times when there is a vacuum leak somewhere, and the engine accelerates (which puts more demand on the vacuum system) it will reduce the air blowing out up top.  That is because the lower airflow "doors" are weakened by the reduction in vacuum pressure, and the air defaults up to the defrost.

That's why when you switch the airflow on many cars of that vintage you'll hear the "pshhhhhh" sound when the airflow switches as the airflow doors open and close.
