Good to here from you Virginia, its been a while. Glad to hear your doing good and sounds like you are doing the right thing concerning your husband. Be careful.

Things here in Florida are turning back to normal much faster than other parts of the country. Rose and I went out to dinner for the first time in 6 weeks last Saturday. I hate masks mostly because they hide the facial expressions. Its hard to tell if someone is joking or being serious or if someone is happy or sad. I don't wear one unless absolutely necessary. We went from 4 weeks of no jobs to now booking for late July.

I know you posted about information for cloth backed foam. That would be a good question for Mike. Haven't heard from Mike in a while. Haven't heard from a lot of the regulars in quite a while. Its good to hear from you.

The old format did not have the option to directly add images and apparently the new format does not either. I noticed a photo shaped button in the blue boxes just above where we message. When clicked on it asks for a URL I guess like Photobucket.

Here is the latest with Photobucket. I haven't used my photobucket account in a while. Now I am getting messages in my e-mail stating,

"Image hosting (sharing) is not available to our free members, but good news, all of your images are safe and will continue to be hosted across the internet when you become a premium member."

The membership is only $7.99 but I'm cheap and will not be using Photobucket anymore.  There are other free hosting sites like google but uploading and then copying the URL and pasting into my message is a hassle. I feel this is the main reason forum users has fallen to about 5 these past 5 years. I now notice Steve hasn't been around awhile.

I wright this for Rob Haywood, apparently our new moderator. I realize a server with enough memory to store all these photos Is expensive. You can reformat the site all you want but your not addressing the main problem. An upholstery forum that cannot post pictures is not going to get a lot of action. I hope I don't sound mad, I'm not. For me It'll be a sad day when this site completely closes down.

When I try to attach an image I get, Your file is too large, The maximum attachment size allowed is 40KB

I'm no expert when it comes to imaging but that seems small. My camera is set to size my images to 1600 X 1200 pixels. That's just about the smallest it will go. I set it to that size so I wouldn't have to resize the images later when I wanted to send them in an e-mail or use them on fb. My properties file tells me my images are running anywhere from 116KB to 280KB. So I took an image with 268KB and shrank it down to about 1/2 the size, and of course I'm still way above the maximum attachment size.

So I'm thinking, every time I want to attach a photo I'm going to have to shrink it down to below 40KB? Or is my logic flawed? Is there any way you could raise that max attachment size? Am I doing something wrong?

I will try the avatar image next.

We are keeping our heads above water as more jobs are coming in every week. The stimulus check certainly helped. Rose just applied for unemployment for the 4 weeks we were without work. It took her 3 hours to navigate the system. Our church did drive-in service for 4 weeks and we are now back to regular services inside. Half of the chairs were removed to comply with state rules. Trump says he will not close down the country down again. I hope he sticks to this promise. In hindsight I think the whole thing was way overblown and bad information was given to our leaders. Florida's economy is recovering faster than most and more businesses are opening every day. Our Governor says unemployment is going down faster than ever.

My dentist is still closed. He was close to retirement and this break may have pushed him to it.

The local dog groomer around the corner has gone to mobile only. This is something she considered before the lockdown.

America is strong and business owners are resourceful I can see a day when things get completely back to normal.

The problem with recliners, in my opinion is, its hard to make money on them. So much work and time spent when the customer can buy a new one for under $800. They are not one of my favorite jobs anyway so we have pretty much priced them out of the ball park.

Now add the extra time you will spend trying to make this recliner look good with a product that does not lend itself to the final goal.

Warn the customer the look and feel will be much different. Then you have to make the decision, do you really want the job? If its a long time customer you may not have a choice. But there is nothing worse than spending countless hours on a job and never really being satisfied with the end result.

Suggesting other options; Most customers choose vinyl for the stain resistance and easy clean up. But there are plenty of fabrics out there that have good stain resistance and offer a softer look and feel.  Krypton comes to mind.  Micro-suede is fairly easy to clean and a common choice for recliners. Finish it off with a high quality fabric protection and it should hold up to her satisfaction.

Typically outdoor cushions are made from the same material as indoor cushions. Foam and dacron. Sometimes outdoor furniture is filled with loose fill. Every once in a while we find a filler that is not common or one that we do not have a source for. If the cushion is filled with something like thick and dense dacron decisions need to be made. Do you have the time to research and locate a supplier who will ship an order to a mom and pop shop? Or will you be forced to buy a minimum amount that you will never use in a lifetime?

If the cushion is stuffed with the thick and dense dacron (I do not know the industry name) a couple layers of dacron should fluff them back up. If the cushions are shot then replacing them with an available material like foam may work. If the customer insists on using the same type filler you will need to charge for the hours of research you are about to do.

Don't be surprised if the cushions are stuffed with something you have never seen before. These manufacturers come up with some interesting ideas.

The phones been dead all week, Alachuia County is in lockdown but still plenty of cars on the roads. I started two chairs Monday and then Tuesday got hit hard by some bug. Between Rose cramming herbs and vitamins down my throat and preachers moms Chicken soup and tons of bed rest I made it back to the land of the living. Pretty sure it wasn't coronavirus but it was something pretty nasty. Thanks to Roses quick thinking it never made it to my lungs. 3 days in bed is enough for me, rest and relaxation for the remainder of the weekend.

If by decking you mean a deck with a cushion on top, this is not that type seat. This is a tight seat with boxing around the perimeter. When Iain striped the seat down he tore the cotton off leaving a large chunk behind. I'm not sure if he can reuse the old cotton without making a lumpy mess.

If it was a cushioned seat and the customer liked it I would very carefully reuse the old padding. That's what I did last week to that furry wing chair I posted. It had a marshal unit wrapped with cotton. I wasn't crazy about the result but the customer liked it and really, that's all that matters.

Here is a photo of the chair before he striped it. This photo is from the new fb group Iain created. I hope he doesn't mind I shared it.

Its all personal preference. I like the firmness of foam. Of course everything would have to be run by the customer. But I'm thinking 65 is building this for resale. This is an unusual set up for a non cushioned seat. Without having the benefit of being there all I see is marshal unit and that makes me think squishy.

Mike, we had one customer pick up a sofa Friday and two bring chairs yesterday. I know we are supposed to be social distancing. A slow start to the year and we can't afford to pass up jobs.

My neighbor said she called the local health dept. and asked if they should come in for a test. They told her to stay put, get plenty of rest and self quarantine. We told her if she needs anything like groceries or something from the drug store just ask. Today Rose brought them home made soup and a few other things. She set it at the front door, rang the bell and ran away.

I'm still showing no other symptoms, I think I'll be okay.

Last Tuesday a neighbor, Don, came by with his new toy. A drone with camera. Our church preacher cam by Wednesday and said both Don and his wife were sick. Late last night I was in the back yard with the dogs and the wife was walking by with her dog. She said they both have all the symptoms of Corona and Don has a 102* fever. Yesterday morning I woke up with a sore throat but it went away by noon. Today the same thing happened. I have no other symptoms. The oak pollen is terrible this year so I'm attributing the sore throat to that. Having a neighbor with Corona is concerning especially when I had contact with him just 5 days ago.  I'm loading up on vitamins.

That's when the seat has too high of a crown. It makes the seat look unusually rounded like a basketball. Rose is a real stickler about this and I always have to admit it looks odd. It takes extra work to make a foam seat look flat. Its easy to crush or smash down the edges of foam when you pull the fabric tight. To avoid this you can staple thick, hard edge roll to the perimeter of the seat frame. But usually that will not be enough to build up the edge. I like to use several layers of cotton and feather it toward the center of the springs. When done the edge will be higher than the center and may look odd but once you add the foam and pull everything tight you should have a fairly flat seat. Its impossible to avoid the crown altogether but a slight crown looks much better than a pregnant crown.  If you've ever seen an antique chair with 8-way springs and horse hair padding notice how flat the seat is. Its a look that is pleasing to the eye. In my opinion anyway.

I've only seen this type set up a time or two. I'm not a big fan of marshal units covered in cotton. You may consider replacing with foam. It will take some rather thick foam. 3" or 4". This will make it hard to not make it look pregnant. To avoid the pregnant look add a thick piece of edge roll. 2" should do it. And on top of that add several strips of cotton. Your foam will go on last with a layer of batting. I like to glue pulls to the foam so I have something to attach it to the frame. I've found burlap strips glued on with spray glue works best. 2 cents worth.
