General Discussion / Re: U-shaped booth repair
July 22, 2010, 06:38:52 pm
My guess is that it's less than 54" deep.

But then, what do I know? The other day on Jeopardy they wanted to know how many sides a cube has. I said 8. They said the answer was 6. They were wrong! A cube has 4 sides, 1 top, 1 bottom, 1 inside, and 1 outside. That adds up to 8 for me!

How do we know this thread was not started by a spammer, just pretending to be Bobby???

If this is really you Bobby, thank you for your hard work. I read recently that as much as 95% of all emails are spam. Forums are certainly a major target for spammers.

If this is not Bobby, please let me know and I will "notify" the real Bobby.

General Discussion / Re: New Kind Of Scam ?
July 20, 2010, 05:28:50 am
You can google and read about the history of Nigeria email scams - it's interesting.

Folks in Nigeria would go to coffee houses that had computers and internet connections. They would spend all day sending out emails like these. Drinking coffee and knowing that they were stealing. The Nigerian government allowed it because it was bringing in money to their economy.

Eventually, international pressure got the government to take some action.

What amazes me is how many people must fall for these scams in order for them to be profitable to the people running the scams.

I'm going to buy your car for 12k, but I trust you so much that I will send you a check for 20k and you cash it and just send me back the extra 8k and I will pick up the car in a week??? Wow! It feels so good to know that some stranger trusts me.

General Discussion / Boat cover?
July 18, 2010, 10:07:25 am
I have never done a boat cover. This guy wants me to do one for him. I told him he doesn't have a leg to stand on. I said how about we table this idea until the winter when I can have more time to figure out what I need to do.

It's interesting. I was always told that sticking gum on the bottom of a table is rude. For this guy, it could actually save his life.

All he needs to do is buy a sticker and get a life jacket and he will be Coast Guard approved!

Sofadoc,

I think it was 2 years ago that Burger King (aka: Burger Barf), came out with a 2,400 calorie sandwich. The news media took the lead on criticizing BK for destroying peoples' lives with such an unhealthy sandwich.

The CEO of BK had a press conference and he said, "We don't sell things that people do not want to buy." If I remember correctly, BK stock went up that same day.

It's not very often that a company tells the news media to stuff it.

General Discussion / It's Friday, again.
July 16, 2010, 06:34:12 am
I know. I should be at work but I've got soooo many things to do here at home!

The teacher gave her fifth grade class an assignment:

Get their Parents to tell them a story with a moral at the
end of it.

The next day, the kids came back and, one by one, began to
tell their stories. There were all the regular types of stuff:
spilled milk and pennies saved. But then the teacher realized,
much to her dismay, that only Skip was left.

"Skip, do you have a story to share?"

Yes ma'am. My daddy told a story about my Aunt Karen . She
was a pilot in Desert Storm, and her plane got hit. She had
to bailout over enemy territory, and all she had was a flask
of whiskey, a pistol, and a survival knife.

She drank the whiskey on the way down so the bottle wouldn't
break, and then her parachute landed her right in the
middle of 20 Iraqi troops.

She shot 15 of them with the pistol, until she ran
out of bullets, killed four more with the knife, till the blade
broke, and then she killed the last Iraqi with her bare hands.

"Good Heavens," said the horrified teacher. "What kind of
moral did your daddy tell you from this horrible story?"

"Stay the hell away from Aunt Karen when she's been drinking."

General Discussion / Re: What?

I have a house once that had moles in the yard. I actually found a book in our library about how to skin moles and make clothes out of them. Moles are very small. I did not borrow the book.

I tried a lot of ways to get rid of them. The only solution is to get rid of the grubs in the grass. Grubs in your grass are a good sign that you have healthy grass. I didn't want to pour chemicals in my yard.

One day I was standing in my front yard with a bow and arrow, pointed at the opening of a mole hole. I didn't notice the county sheriff drive into my driveway. He approached me with his hand on his gun. He asked me to put down the bow and arrow and turn around very slowly.

He said he had been standing there for 5 minutes and I hadn't moved an inch. I think that's what convinced him that I was telling the truth.

LOL

We call it the Golden Trough. I ate there a month ago when my niece graduated from college. That is the restaurant that she picked. A lot of food. The main spice is salt. Well, the only spice is salt.

I have pointed out to many people over the years that where ever there is a Chinese restaurant, there will be a vet office or animal hospital within two blocks.
Anyone able to tell me I am wrong?

General Discussion / Re: Upholstered mirrors
July 14, 2010, 08:21:02 pm
Thanks for your reply. Your mirrors look great. As does your web site.

Did you ever make the frame to someones' spec or design and then cover with fabric, or have you only done already made frames?

My thinking is what you described, not a lot of demand for it but it would be nice to add it to the things I do.

General Discussion / Estimates
July 13, 2010, 05:38:54 pm
I do my Estimates with Quick Books. I either print out my Estimates or email them to my customers.

When I need to make changes to an existing Estimate, I make the changes on the same Estimate with a note at the bottom saying "Revised 7-13-10".

For example, I quote a sofa, and then I add two club chairs to the original Estimate.

Is this the way you do it? Or, is it better to provide a totally new Estimate.

Thank you,

Gene

General Discussion / Upholstered mirrors
July 13, 2010, 05:36:11 pm
Anyone do upholstered mirrors? I saw some on the net recently and it looks like something interior designers may be interested in, especially if I make custom sized and shaped frames.

Anyone do anything like this? Any insights into what has worked and what has not and what works better than something else?

Thank you,

Wow Scotty, you can actually come to a draw in an argument with your wife?

How do you do it? Spikes to the shins? High kicks to the face? Flopping?

(Name withheld in case my wife happens to read this post.)
