nice job, they dont use shrinkwrap over there?  o used to be in new england aand did shrinkwrap for the cost one could have the boat covered by somone else for a number of year for the cost of somthing like yours and they would probly sell the boat before that. i have a friend who had me hrink him in oct 2003 he reuse dthe plastic for 8 years then he took some one year old plastic off a  neighbors boat, the guy was going to through it outso he took it.

Thanks.
Shrinkwrap? Yep, it's been around here for years: http://www.marineshrinkwrapping.com/photo2010.htm
Mostly used for transport and some use it for winterising, but I don't think I've ever seen anyone reuse it.

Just bringing this up for my two pennies worth;

I think it would be a mistake having a private sub forum. I'm a member of staff on a forum with over 200K members that has over 200K topics with 6 million plus posts. We have a private area, and these guys actually pay for the privilege. It's my experience that once the users gain access to the private area their posting in the public area becomes less frequent and in turn lowers the quality of the public area because those whom stick to the private areas tend to be the most informative.

The "GREEN" Room! / Another Winter Cover
February 09, 2012, 09:36:10 pm
Knocked this one up just after the other one I posted some time back.

A Nicholson 32 if I remember correctly.

I actually ran out of cloth for this one, thought I ordered enough to do both jobs but had to reorder from a different batch so there was a colour difference.  :'( In the shop the difference in colour was something I couldn't ignore so decided to come clean with the customer and inform him. He wasn't too fussed about it and went away a happy chappy with an extra year of free servicing for the error. Fitted the cover; Could hardly see the difference in daylight. :plonker:

Ok, I'll bite...   What's a "DVD" and "thermal pane"?

PDQ showed a how he makes his curvy corners with a vinyl record. These being tighter corners I think this guy has gone digital. And if you don't know what a double glazed, low-e, argon filled thermal pane window is I'm coming to visit.

Hey! Not just any old vinyl record, Elton John's Greatest Hits actually.  :P

This week I'm using me Mums best china.  ;D

Very nice! Neat indeed!

Thats okay, I'm anti-RIB. Anytime I make a cover for them they end up all loose and wrinkly. They start out looking good but each snap I put in makes it look worse. :(

Cheers!

Yep, it's right downer when that happens.

hey Dude.

looks pretty clean with the bungee hidden. I actually like seeing the
lacing, I like the zigzag pattern it makes.
The UV messes it up though.

Rich

Aye, shame that.

Don't see many RIB covers posted on the forums, so here's one I finished yesterday.

Held on with RIB hooks & bungee hidden under a 3.5" reinforced flange for UV protection and neatness. A anti-Peppy RIB whereby the console is off-centre, therefore impossible to half template.  ;D  Just kidding, mate. :)

General Discussion / Re: Your oddest projects.
November 12, 2011, 04:39:27 pm
In 1977 the firm I worked for were doing a lot work for Whitbread round the World (now called the volvo ocean race) challenger ADC Accutrac, skippered by Claire Francis. One of the projects, although not odd to make, was more odd in the way we went about making it, was a flag with the boats mascot sewn onto it. The boats mascot was a mermaid riding on the back of a dolphin whilst surfing the waves, and due to the lack of computer generated images back then it all had to be hand drawn, cut & sewn. Drawing the dolphin and waves were no problem but no one could draw the mermaid. Solution; get young PDQ (aged 16) to lay on the cloth as if he was riding on the already drawn dolphin, draw round him, then add breasts. :)

It worked like a charm, but it felt a bit odd and somewhat embarrassing (16yr old street cred) seeing a silhouette of myself (now with breasts) on the now flying flag as they set off around the world. :)

Sorry 'bout that, chief!  ::)  The fit is so snug and nearly wrinkle free I was sure there had to be some extra support under there somewhere.  Very nice work, I think winter covers can be a real challenge.

No worries. :)
They're pretty simple so long as you get your measurements right and transfered to cloth correctly. After that it should all fall into place, but they don't always. :) The most common problem area is the aft section, from the topping lift down to the corners of the pushpit. Get that bit right and then you're laughing. :)

I can't go into any detail about this current oddity, but considering that this video is already in the public domain I can at least give you clue:  :-X

Very nice, Peppy!  What did you use for the framing that supports the cover?

Not sure what Peppy used tbh.  ;D However, this one has no frame work, just a boom and the odd tensioned line from mast to pulpit.
