It looks like im getting an extra roll of Sunbrella 3/4" Aquamarine binding shipped to me.  I will likley not use an entire roll, and this is the first time in 4 years i have used this color. With that said, is anyone in need of a full roll(100yds) of 3/4" Sunbrella aquamarine binding? 60.00 shipped anywhere in the lower 48. PM me or post here  if interested.

General Discussion / Seats for a 32 fountain
August 14, 2014, 05:44:40 am
Has anyone had experience recovering seats in a 32 fountian? Looks like ill have a couple to recover over the winter. These have the hydraulic drop away seat bases. I'd be interested to know how much time was spent in recovering them so I can accurately price them.

I have a customer who is interested in having his three marine folding deck chairs recovered in sunbrella and I am having a hard time with the price quote. He has 2 single seaters and a double seater. Has anyone recovered these in sunbrella?

General Discussion / Liability insurance
March 21, 2013, 10:08:14 am
Im trying to find a insurance carrier for liability insurance for my canvas company. I seem to be running into walls at almost every turn. As soon as you mention "Marine Canvas" they cringe and either cant insure you OR its astronomical in price  per year. Anyone have any suggestions of which companies I should call or how to approach them?

thanks!

General Discussion / Stitch lengths
March 05, 2013, 10:26:24 am
I was wondering what size stitch lengths everyone uses for sewing Marine enclosures and for upholstery?

I ask because i am having difficulty with my stitching around corners on upholstery when using pre-made seaquest  welting. I have a welt foot with the cut out in the rear.  I typically use a 7.5-8 stitch on enclosure curtains and upholstery. I also tried a shorter stitch length(6) on the upholstery and it seems to tighten the vinyl to the welt better. I am using a consew 206rb5.

General Discussion / snap on table coverings
February 28, 2013, 06:15:45 pm
just refinished my sewing table and I am looking to make some snap on covers when I am sewing clear window vinyls such as strataglass, crystal clear, aquaview, etc. What materials does everyone use to cover their tables for sewing window vinyls to keep them from getting scratches?

Any input is appreciated.

Thanks!

Anyone have a recommendation for sew tags? I am looking to add them to the canvas I make for customers. If anyone has a  website address for companies they are using that would be great!

General Discussion / Angle Binder
September 14, 2011, 11:20:04 am
I read a thread on here about angle binders not too long ago so I ordered on from Gregg Monday. I have to say its the best binder I have used to date. Goes around corners and turns with ease.

And thanks to Gregg too! Once received, I had it on the machine minutes, adjusted, and binding like a champ!

General Discussion / Tonneau cover clips
June 17, 2011, 05:20:11 pm
The other local canvas shop told my neighbor they couldn't be sewn but there are needle holes in them. So I have to ask the obvious question, how hard are these things to sew?

General Discussion / bobbin case tensioning.
May 19, 2011, 11:44:21 am
Had to loosen my bobbin case tension on my 206rb to use 138 dabond thread. My tensioning screw fell out because of this, so its making me ask the question, how loose is your screw? Bobbin case screw, that is.

Im sure this has been done before, but I thought i would share what i did to pattern an older top on a Stamas 24.

The top snapped to the windshield in the front and also had one snap on each side then went back to a 2 bow bimini frame. As i was setting up my pattern with 6 mil plastic i started putting duct tape on the plastic where i put the quick fit pins on the top of the windshield. This gave the plastic the strength to hold up to the tension i applied with clamps on the rear bow of the frame. I did use 3 layers of tape at each quick fit pin. 1 piece didn't seem to be as effective as three. With three i was able to tighten it down good and snug. Sorry no pictures of the pattern on the boat.

The other trick i learned is if u need to alter a pattern after you have cleaned it up a cut it out you can always add duct tape to it and re-cut.

Lastly, i learned you can never have enough spring clamps.

General Discussion / Recacril
May 04, 2011, 05:10:13 am
Mojo made the following points about Recacril in another thread. I didnt want to hi-jack his thread so i started this one.

1.) They carry a huge amount of colors
2.) It is made in Spain in a very high tech factory
3.) Because it has a different weave then Sunbrella it will not stretch over time.
4.) It will last as long or longer then Sunbrella.
5.) It has excellent fade resistance and can easily handle the Florida sun.

I haven't priced out Sunbrella but heard that Recacril is a bit cheaper. Miami is a carrier of Recacril but I know it is widely used in Europe.

I have a couple of questions about Recacril:

Are the colors the same or identical to sunbrella, ie can you use sunbrella binding?
Do you have to hot knife the edges like sunbrella, i am assuming yes at this point?

thanks!

General Discussion / 38 foot Viking sportfish canvas
March 29, 2011, 11:57:33 am
I have a friend who has asked me to price out new canvas on the bridge of his 38 ft viking. Pricing it out is fairly easy. However, he has asked me to do the front and sides in 1 piece each. The canvas that was on it had 3 pieces across the front and 2 across each side. So, my questions are these if the length will allow a full sheet of Strata to be used, will it function as it should and will it look good?

I am also open for the pros and cons of doing one piece versus 2 or 3.
