Let's try the word association game !
The rules are simple. It starts with a single word, and you respond with a single associated word. For instance, if the word is "hot", the next person could respond with "rod", and the next could respond with "fishing" and so on. Easy ?
If you've read this far, you might as well play [umm, yes, this would fall in the not important and not urgent quadrant]
Now, just type in a single word associated with the last word and let's see how many associations we can make.
So.. here's the first word:
Upholstery
poverty
OK, I'll play right.
SHOP
Hours
of
mice
fabric
Land
Local fabric shop called fabricland.
Ho!
streetwalker (think Eddie Murphy SNL - Velvet Jones - "You too can be a ho")
OK, I'm confused.............Time Out!!
Are we supposed to give a word that normally follows the previous word in a sentence or phrase? Ex. HOT ROD
OR........can we pick a word that merely reminds us of something associated with the previous word or phrase? Ex. HO STREETWALKER
Actually, you guys may have just re-written history. Perhaps when Chris Columbus peered through his telescope, he was announcing to his crew that the first 2 things he saw were soil and a prostitute.
I'm ready to throw a flag on SteveA. Unless he has a serious rodent problem in his shop, I don't see how you go from "mice" to "fabric".
Anxiously awaiting a ruling from His Grand High Exalted Hammerness.
Rant over........Time back in (pick up with "Streetwalker")
Back on track,
"Furniture"

Man, it would be so easy to go back to the first word. However:
recover

Any kind of "association" - part of a phrase, synonym, homonym, related, adjective-noun, adverb-verb, subject-verb, verb-object, etc.
recover -> economy
recession
OK Doc - you forced me to re-read and follow along. You don't want to know what I got on my SAT's -
I must have been thinking about my rocker and the free fabric when I typed in that word unlike you with Ladies of the Night on your mind -
I'll try..... recession > bank account
SA
Ummm, SteveA:
It was I who had ladies of the evening on my mind. : o
Bank account--->interest
"Bank account" is 2 words, thus in direct violation with Sir Hammer's original edicts.
This is your second infraction SteveA. One more, and you could find yourself on double secret probation.
Be prepared to bend over and say "THANK YOU SIR......MAY I HAVE ANOTHER!!"
Interest-----> Bearing
bearing ---> load (load bearing walls)
Virginia
I was going to play but it's gotten too confusing.
I like those ink blots better. They all look like chocolate chip cookies and even thought the person giving the ink blot test started writing a bunch of stuff down in her notebook, she never mentioned anything about the possibility of me having to bend over.
gene
I had an ink blot test once when I was a teenager. My responses were:
1. two people having sex on a sofa
2. two people having sex on the floor
3. two people having sex on a table
4. two people having sex in a car
5. two people having sex in a bathtub
At this point the psychologist stops and says, "I think you might be pre-occupied with sex."
I told her, "Well, you're the one with all the dirty pictures!"
We now return you to your regularly scheduled time wasting game. Come on folks, it's not rocket surgery.

Load. ---> bearing
OK, we've gone from bearing to load, and back to bearing. I'll take in a different direction.
Bearing------> Strait (yes, I know it's spelled differently)
Apparently, this IS rocket surgery (or brain science?)
jacket
windbreaker (no one is allowed to say F@RT)
you didn't say that I couldn't say:
F@RTKNOCKER
I watched too much Beavis & Butthead in my early years ; )

I thought the aforementioned was a compound word - you really do need that sign Grumpa -
I have to look up Fortknocker ........ need a consult from google - where's Virginia when I need her ?
Little cheating but
OK not to crash this = Hooters
Indiana
Oops, I thought he said hoosers.
Hooters... Um, In the words of Al Bundy, BigUns. (that is one word)
"girls"
SteveA: unless you're a fan of Beavis & Butthead, some things are probably best left alone ; ) I'm sure you can go to UTube and see some of their best. I recommend "The Great Cornholio" for starters.

Keeper of the rules:
Waterfall, singular, was used two posts up. Does the plural form count as a new word or are we re-using a word?

I'm still trying to figure out if it's a compound word -
Not to infringe on your word since I wasn't paying attention again -
I'll re-post

The plural form has a different meaning than the singular form. You can use the plural form in Scrabble but not in Scattergories.
May I suggest waiting for the Grand Poobah who started this thread to show up and enlighten us.
