Applying double welt to furniture?

I am currently recovering an antique sofa and chairs, I would like to know how do you go by applying double welt to furniture? Do you use staples or glue when applying double welt and what is the technique for application?

Thanks

MinUph

I use a hot glue gun. Trim off the excess fabric leaving around 1/8". Lay glue on the section and place the welt on. Press it down and continue. Careful not to get glue anyplace else. Place the ends in the most inconspicuous place. If the fabric is thin I will trim off the cords and fold under the fabric so it is a finished end. You can put a gimp tack or a colored staple to hold the ends if needed.
