common sense e z tool hand punch

I have the regular hand cutter but after just doing a cockpit cover on a 42 cigarette that had only common sense fastners all around , I was thinking of investing in one of these

if you do covers for a living you have pretty much got to have both of them, very pricey though.

or try looking at the snapmaster which does everything and closes the legs on commonsense and lift dot fasteners,

I have never been able to use the hand punch for common sense fasteners.  My hands are just not quite strong enough to go through the layers required to securely support and the seat them.  My boss has hands that are larger than mine and is able to use the hand punch. 

I wonder if the other ladies on the forum are able to use the hand punches easily.  I have a hard time with every single one of them... even a foolish snap tool.

I think rich may be right. Looked at the video and makes sense. I saw the tool at trivantage for 210. Not sure what the dies are but seems to me it might be the same as just the e z hand tool and I'd get a lot more use out of it. I've been using the hand punch and setting them by hand for a couple years , just looking for a better faster way when I have a lot of them to do.

It looks like those dies in the video would fit a Hoover Press which is what I own.

I use that tool all the time to set snaps on my solar screens. I would be lost without it. I have never used the lift a dot snaps.

I use the EZ common sense punch. Love it. Wouldn't be with out it. But, huh huh, um, like, last week? I like, kinda forgot it on a boat? And like, the boat? It like, drove away. Down the road, like. Ummm, oops? Sorry?

Ya so we now have a new one. It was deemed an essential tool. I don't f**k up often but when I do it usually costs somewhere around $500. The Bosch foam saw was like 5 years ago now. (not EXACTLY my fault)

But reason #2 why I work for a guy.

Anyway, don't waist your money on the lift the dot one. I hate those things and change them on sight. I only put them in when I have to with the mallet.

VeI've got them bolth. I like the lift the dots no moving parts that get floppy like the turnbuttons.
To bad that snapmaster to rich dosent cut the hole at the same time   Looks kinda cumbersome to load also needs a screwdriver to set it in place. I'll stick with installing by hand I'll bet  I'm faster too.

I use both but don't actually own them because I'm still refusing to pay the approx £267 / $417 USD purchase price for each of them. OK, they are tax deductable but that's not the point, it's yet another example of 'Rip-off Britain' http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rip-off_Britain and one I'm not prepared to play along with.

I will of course purchase them off the Internet once I can find a supplier who doesn't charge an arm and a leg (another rip-off) for P&P.

That said, they are essential tools of the trade.

I'd be interested in knowing if those dies fit the Hoover Pres N Snap - anyone try it yet?

I used the EZ Tool Hand Punch for the LTD fasteners once and wasn't overly impressed with it - but perhaps it was my application that was to blame.  I was using polypro webbing as reinforcement around the LTD fastener and every time I cut through a layer of Sunbrella and the polypro I had to sometimes use some force to get the tool to open back up and then use a pick to clear the punched material out of the holes before I could move to the next one.  I decided to return it to my friend and continue to use the hand punch to make the holes on my next job.

One tool I did enjoy using that was "new to me" was a die TriVantage sells for setting the backs of these fasteners with a mallet vs. bending each one manually.  I believe their part number is 275581 for the LTD setter but no photo available to confirm - just wrote it down from one of their mailers about a year ago and borrowed it from a friend who purchased it at that time.  Sort of annoyingly priced at $81 for a somewhat simple device so I would like to try to make one over paying that myself.

I have one dot snap master tool & 2 hoovers  ::) & one ez cutter for common sense. I like the ez & would get one for the LTD if they weren't so expensive.
The good news is that the shaft size on the snap master & hoover are the same, the bad news is that the hoover is male+male & the snap master is male+ female or the other way around  ??? result is one half of your closer/cutter will fit but the other half won't.
Shame.....

Ya, it doesn't work great on webbing. Everything else though.

the simple setter from sailrite? I like to think it works. I bet it doesn't always though. Like not in waterstop/stopleak.

I install my fastner on the boat so a hammer tool wouldnt work well with a curtian hanging in place. i fit the panel and punch the hole and hand install the fastners
