Can't find heavy burlap locally. Like 17oz or 20oz.
Supplier sells the same loose 10oz stuff that Joann does.
I can find 'no-sag' heavy burlap online, but that's all.
Anyone else have this trouble?

I don't buy it. I've got a roll of 10 oz that been untouched for awhile. I use scraps of new fabric that work well.

Sunshine Foam only sells 10oz in jute and synthetic.

Scraps of fabric works for the short term. And is fine if it doesn't stretch out in use. It's always been hard for me to tell if a fabric will stretch out in use. I dont want to find out in the field. So I have moved back to 10 oz. burlap.

Can you double up what you're using ?

I have seen some really thick burlap on high end antiques. I don't know if it was 20 oz but I always wondered where to get it. I use 10 oz to cover springs. If you are concerned it will fail 10 oz generally last longer then the upholstery fabric you will cover the piece in.

Did you get a sample from your supplier and compare it with Joanns? I would be surprised if it was the same. Most of Joanns supplies are less than quality. They may both be called 10 oz but a good supplier will have burlap that is a tighter weave. A customer once gave ma a job she was going to do herself. She went to Joanns and bought all the supplies including burlap and dacron. When I started the job I set all of her supplies off to the side and used my own. Much higher quality.
There cannot be a crisis next week. My schedule is already full.

True. But I've never been too terribly impressed with the long-term performance of Burlap. So I use scraps.

I ended up ordering some 17oz burlap online. I'll let you all know how it goes.

Old post but may be helpful,,

How about a 12oz cotton canvas, very strong durable, have you considered using that..?
