I had just met a early customer to price a cover on his formula sport boat. Then i walked back in to my bait shop to have a cup of coffee. And some town sorkers stop out front of my shop and a  uosness owner across the street ran over.   Saying were under attack.  Then wat h in shock the news on tv.
I remember all the bad reports of how it will affect buisness and then thoughts of that worried me also. I do t exactly recall if it was one or teo day later but i was surprised when that first customer called to sign the job.    My father was in the hospital at the time and i went over to visit later and it was all that was on all the bed tvs.

My high school gym coach was killed on a plane that morning and a pilot was from my home town also.

Not much has changed for me. I'm sitting at my desk right now. Right where I was then.

At the time, I had 2 children. Now, I have 2 grandchildren.

I was making lunch for my husband to take to work.  He was a civilian employed at Fort Leavenworth.  We immediately left as we knew security would be tightened.  It took an hour and a half to get to his office, usually 20 minutes tops.  The next day was even worse.  The military police searched every inch of every car, looked underneath with the mirrors, searched lunch bag and gym bags.  We left the house at 7 am and by 10 am we still had not gotten to the main gate of the installation.  We both needed to use the rest room after 3 hours in our car and one of the shop keepers whose shop was on the main drag actually refused to allow us to use the rest rooms.  So we went to a government facility a few blocks further.  We were never able to get on Fort Leavenworth at all on 9/12.  It got easier after that as they made more lanes, hired contractors to help do the vehicle searches, etc.  Now, you can pretty much drive on the fort like you did prior to 9/11.  Time marches on and we get lax.

We were living in Bristol, TN at the time and I just happened to have CNN on. I rarely ever watch TV during the day time. The news hit the airwaves and then I watched the twin towers collapse.

My client who was attending a convention in London, England called in a panic. The news hit there at the same time and the Brit's were up in arms. I was feeding her updates over the phone as things happened.

I have a very close friend of mine who works on Wall Street and lives across from central park.  He got caught on the street and had to duck into a building and was hiding behind a counter.
He said he could hear people screaming for help from the water front but could not see a single thing outside as it was all dust and smoke. He was trapped in the building for a long time. I finally got ahold of him the next day and was happy to hear he was OK. It left a major emotional scar on him.

It is a day I will never forget. It is a day I know that Bo will never forget.

I was working out of my garage at the time. My neighbor (retired Marine) came over and told me what was going on. He said the first jet could have been an accident but the second was an act of war. I was in and out of the house all day watching the latest updates, although nobody really knew what was going on. I heard one report the Sears Tower was hit. I really got upset when the Pentagon was hit, trying to make since of it all and wondering what else was going to happen.

I couldn't believe my eyes when the towers collapsed. All those poor people gone, just like that. God bless them.

Did ya'll have any issues with gas prices being gouged?  Ours went up close to $1.00 from the time the first tower was hit until midnight.  Several businesses were later fined as that is supposed to be illegal.

I had filled up one car right after I got back from taking Bob to work.  Filled up the other car that evening and almost choked when I saw how much they were charging a gallon but no one knew for sure what was going on, how supply was going to be effected, etc and we wanted both cars with a full tank of gas.

I was on a repair appointment  that morning - I watched it with the customer on her TV.  I had worked numerous times in both buildings.  (One Trade Center) I was on a job as a sub - there every day for 9 months - a re-insurance Company - retouching newly delivered furniture on 8 different floors.  Every time I've gone back to the area since I have unpleasant thoughts. Blessings to those who were lost and their families. 
Our volunteer fire dept. had gone down to the pile every day for months.  Thankfully no one has any breathing issues -

I remember all summer before 9/11, all the news stations could talk about were shark attacks off the coast of Florida, and Senator Gary Condit (who was under intense scrutiny for the disappearance of Chandra Levy).

Then the twin towers fell. Suddenly, sharks stopped attacking. And Gary Condit was allowed to fade into obscurity.

Funny how big news stories just go away when the media suddenly has bigger fish to fry.

I was at a job interview at a Holiday Inn in Northern Ky. The guy flew into town and was having interviews at the hotel. Every TV was turned to that event.

Gene, I briefly lived in Covington, KY and attended No. Ky. Univ. in a previous life.  By chance, were you at the new Riverfront Holiday Inn?  I hear it's a great hotel.

I was working for my friends who owned Old time Signs while I built my business up. The shop and their residence were in a 108 yr. old church and the living quarters were smoke free, so I normally came in 1/2 an hour or so early and had a coffee and a smoke with Murray before we started work. He told me what had happened and we were headed to his TV ; just in time to see the second tower get hit. Deb should have borrowed her daughter's roller blades. She took her paperwork into the "house" but kept running out going, " you guys have to come see this" for most of the day. I was shocked at how many Canadian and other "foreigners" were victims of those four attacks.

Yesterday, I attended a funeral for my GF's sister in Winnipeg. I really hope that this is not one of those "they happen in threes" things. She was diagnosed with esophageal cancer 01 Apr/14---Dad had the same diagnosis 01Apr/13. She was 62---Dad was 72 when he passed last Nov. My sister will be 52 by that time next year. Creepy.

The day before 9/11 my wife and I were in DC, down on the national  mall visiting the Vietnam Memorial and the Lincoln Memorial.  I remember looking across the Potomac to the Pentagon.  It was a beautiful day.  The next day, we got up early, hooked the Airstream to the truck and headed south.  Traffic was very light and we made it to a state park just outside Raleigh. We turned on the TV and we shocked by how close we had come to being a part of it.  Then we started to worry about gas availability, traffic, etc. and the impact it might have on our return to Texas.

It was not the Riverfront, but the one close to the airport. The entire Riverfront scene has changed drastically in the last few years. A gambling casino on the Ohio side, a lot of great restaurants. With the Newport Aquarium and the baseball/football stadiums, the riverfront has become a destination.

NKU has a great reputation for being a small, local college. It made the news this past April, though. And I think one of the reasons it was such a big story around town is that NKU has such a good reputation.

Former Northern Kentucky University Athletic Director Scott Eaton accepted a 10-year prison sentence Thursday when he pleaded guilty to theft charges in Campbell County.

Eaton was fired in March 2013 after admitting to having inappropriate relationships with four NKU employees and one adult student. An NKU investigation found he had diverted $311,215 to his personal use.

Gene, you just blew me away with the NKU news!  I only attended NKU for one semester but I absolutely loved it.  I transferred to Univ. of Nebraska and just hated it as it was so huge.  None of the instructors knew your name.  Assigned seating and you were known by a number -- ugh!  Went spring semester and one summer semester and took a break to get my head together.  I moved back to Nebraska after my ex and I separated -- we met when we were both stationed at Ft Lee, Virginia.  Man those days are long ago.
