Is it Leather?

We get that request frequently and find that the situation and availability of matching dyes and final cost of "just" doing it isn't cheap, which is usually what the customer thinks.

I figure the mileage cost, employee time driving, plus labor doing a procedure and it isn't "just".  The cost and situation is better handled by replacing material in the area of damage.

I usually tell the customer to save their money by finding some dye and spraying it on themselves.  I don't think they ever do anything, however.

A can of dye can cost $20 and still not match, vehicle mileage cost (gov. numbers) is $.50 plus per mile and a business owner can figure the rest of the cost.  Usually there are at least two trips involved if you do the job and time searching for materials.

The guys who specialize in that type of work, dying vinyl or leather, tell me they can't make money on small jobs like that, their time and materials are too high.
