Asymmetrical striped fabric

How do you run your stripes on the arms when the fabric is an asymmetrical stripe? Do you keep all the fabric heads up or do you turn the fabric upside down on one arm so the arms are mirror images of each other. This also causes the outside side panels to be different.

The picture below shows a chair where the fabric on one arm has been inverted. It does not show the back out fabric panel but would you invert the back out fabric panel also?

I got a chair from the factory where the fabric on one arm was not inverted to make a mirror image and the homeowner wants it changed.

PS. Just a note of interest: The chair in the picture costs $339.99. The chair in my shop costs $4,000.00.

Generally we decide which way the fabric runs and cut the pattern to make the top the same on all pieces. I see in your link they patterned the arms to look like a mirror image. And I also noticed the outside arms match the inside arm. This is fine unless there is any kind of nap in the fabric. I have seen fabric we thought had no nap and we could run either way. But when we did it changed color. You may want to check this carefully before you start the job. Bottom line, the customer is always right.

Thanks for the comment. This project is a chair that came from the factory with the fabric the way you describe Kdog. The customer wants it to look like it does in the picture I posted.

I don't get this situation very often and I always ask the customer what they want. The ID on this job said that the fabric always comes the way it is in the picture. I guess she is referring to the factory they buy from.

Looking at your link a little closer. The front arm panels are mirror image also. The welts are all cut from solid fabric. I would have cut the welt striped and matched the seat cushion or cut it on the bias. The seat cushion has a red welt on top and a blue welt on bottom. The arm panel welts are red also. If the customer wanted solid welts I think I would have made all welts the same color.

Just stuff I noticed, probably has nothing to do with what you're getting ready to do.
