I had the # 7 - joiners plane and the # 3 box plane but last week picked up the # 5 Smooth plane - great tools - if you go to estate sales they give them away

Never heard of those planes - why they look like a very professional tool -- plus a look of art.  Beautiful
tools.

I wonder how old they are - their origin?

I think they are from the first quarter of the 20th century.  They are Stanley / Bailey planes.  Really good quality - Bailey was a tool designer and Stanley purchased the patents from him.  All three planes say Stanley - Bailey.  Anyway comparable quality new planes from a company like Lie Nielsen are in the $ 300.00 range each.  Two of my planes I paid $ 5.00 each - the large joiner was a gift from a mentor woodworker. Estate sales are a great place to find these gems.

I inherited 2 of the Stanley planes from my grandfather - 1 large and 1 medium. They are amazing. Hard to find that quality now days.
