I've been doing some crossword puzzles recently, and etui shows up as a "needle case."

Recently, I emptied a box of 0.5 mm pencil leads and thought this would make a great thing to hold a few needles for portable use.   Works great.

I did crosswords for over 20 years until I switched to the E-edition a couple of years ago.

Words like etui, anon, and ulee (Ulee's Gold) were always popular "filler"words. They also liked to work in the architect, I.M. Pei.
