Old Problem getting worse?

Replaced three recliner mechanisms withing the last few days, noted they came from China and also noted they looked just about what I took out but one component, while nearly the same, was rounded more on one end and had one less screw hole.  The net result is, after a few days of week, everyone of them are doing what the removed units did.  I don't order the units, so don't know if production has shifted from one plant to another off shore is the problem, but something has to change, people might stop buying them.  Along with this, had three sofa/love seat combo situations brought over for general repairs, recliners was just part of the problem, I quickly determined they aren't worth repairing and they were all almost only six months old.

Again, the problem isn't fixed, and ?  It might be getting worse.

Anyone involved in this activity finding the problem getting better or worse?

I'm afraid it's the new normal. I think about my parents who were married in 1964. My mom still has and uses a mixer and blender along with some other household items that she received as a wedding gift, while my wife and I who were married in 1997 have gone through a few of these already. Things are just engineered to fail now, those that do still under warranty are replaced with more cheap junk or I'd bet the companies actually bank on the fact many won't seek warranty repairs and just replace.

I get in a lot or recliner repairs for local furniture stores, where the main problem is either the footrest jumps out too easily, or you have to kick it with all your might to get it to close/latch.

They furnish a new mech, which IMO isn't any better than the one that failed. But the problem is fixed at least for a month or 2.

I disagree that people will stop buying them unless the quality improves. As long as they can get them on EZ credit terms, they'll keep buying them. Since many retailers offer "No payments till next year" (or even longer), a lot of them are already at the landfill before the first payment is due.

What gets me is how can a big manufacturer like Broyhill afford to pay for all these repairs? My minimum charge is 3 billable hours. I once spent 8 hours fixing two matching sofas. Where does the insanity stop?
There cannot be a crisis next week. My schedule is already full.

I don't know how the companies stay in business.  Well, yes I think I do, this stuff is made off shore and is not costing the manufacturer (example Broyhill) what we would expect because while it is Broyhill, or an old American name, the product isn't made here, made there for an American Manufacturer.  These sofa and love seat combo are probably not costing our American companies much over $400 bucks, they will get close to a $1000 for them.

Bottom line; buyers are getting junk because their primary objective is low price.

People don't know what good furniture is.
