Buying disability insurance

Here is the good thing about insurance. All the bills are run through the insurance company, even though the deductible is not met. They in turn negotiate the price much lower than someone without insurance. Cool :) But I wonder if someone who is suave enough could do this without the insurance company.
There cannot be a crisis next week. My schedule is already full.

Never investigated disability insurance.  But with major medical, I went without for about 3 or 4 years. In So Fla most doctors will give your a break if you're uninsured.  I paid far less out of pocket than I now do with insurance.  Having insurance is costing me for monthly premiums, plus when I go to the doctor, my bill at the end of the visit is much higher.  I guess the payoff comes if I have a major event like heart attack or cancer.  It's a gamble to be without.
