sewing cording into the fabric to make welt cord

I don't remember where this original thread was, but the question was asked if anyone sews cording into the fabric to make the welt cord.

I was making cornice boards today and I was putting welt cord along the bottom of the cornice boards.

I cut strips of fabric 3 1/2" wide, sew them together on the diagonal, then sew the cording into the fabric to make welt cord that has a wide lip on it. I then staple the welt cord along the bottom edge, put chip strip on top of the welt cord to give it a straight line, then pull that wide lip across the bottom edge and staple to the back.

Less measuring. Less cutting. Less stapling. Works for me.
The nice thing about doing it that way is on a stripe the lip lines up automatically.
Also works good when putting top welt on head boards.
