I am almost finished with my first (and probably LAST) recliner. I cannot get the lever to attach properly. I've tried almost 4 times and every time it is wrong-going the wrong way, doesn't recliner properly, etc). Is there a trick to this?? :)

No trick. If the lever is attached and moves but the chair doesn't recline properly something else is wrong. Might be the way you have the mechanism installed.

Is this one where the 2 footrest brackets (1 on each end) are bolted to the main square shaft with 2  7/16" head bolts? If so, Paul's right. You must have the brackets oriented wrong.
