Just finished rebuilding a pair of those for a 1974 Thing and don't you just love separating those back frames from the base, not!

It takes two strong gorillas to manage the tear down and reassembly.

Everytime these type seats come in, I swear before I do the next seats I am going to improvise some type of spreading jig/clamp to make this job easier.  For such a simple car, simple looking seats, they aren't the easiest to rebuild, fabricate covers, and install.  One point, there are fewer of them coming in for repairs, as the years go by.

Anyone have a good ideas on how to separate these frames?

Never used these before in a spreader type capacity but it might be a start. They're handy as a crutch to have around for normal clamping       http://www.acehardware.com/product/index.jsp?productId=1290743
