The "JUNK" Room / Just on zipz...
October 09, 2010, 05:26:29 am
I had better put this on here , seen as though it took so long and the client wasn't too happy in the end .
Could have done with a "Peppy stick " and saved the seven savage trips to the boat to get the bar in the right place
I was going to 'treat' the windows to  a white spirit and lemon juice rub ,But PDQ advised me that this would only make them leak more !
When I was a boy,  I was always taught to make these things a little looser for shrinkage, or to grow in to,
back when I was a dressmaker..
Please don't look too closely at it , then you wont be disappointed  is what I tell my customers... :'(

How did the full burka canvas come into being :-)
is it your boat or a customer ?

where you have sewn the zipper across the top and down the side of the sprayhood
you think about sewing it into the seam of the sprayhood ? I know it would be more
of a PITA but i was thinking of doing it on my bogey green hood.

Just had a call from the owner of the burqa, yada yada  loves it  but how much side wind will it take?
Yeah right !
As for zipper on the edge , sure dude go ahead  tell me how you get on ... I stopped thinking years ago.

Sewing it in your order Jerry means you have to sew around a 90 deg turn doesn't it ?
but if the main bow was in the other direction it would have to be sewn that way . ?

[/quote]

Just what I thought also dude....
Then again I couldn't see anything wrong with the first one you made
except it was green ! :'(

I see what you mean PDQ.  You wouldn't want to do anything bigger than a winch cover in that place .
Heres the little set up we have down here,
It kinda works OK until it falls off the bench.   ;)

Phat-cat  job dude ,   Trick corners too
So what are the loops for on the inside ?     Hand holds ,I guess

All these questions about Keder... It ain't such epic stuff.
Just a step up (perhaps a sideways step in some applications)
from 6mill braided polyester line wrapped in canvas.

Camera distortion ?
So are the pix  "odds-sods #23 and #24 Two different boats,  From the thumbs it looks like the
spray dodgers are elongated ( on the vertical axis )
Nope,  They still look strange in large format.
Difficult on the smaller boats to get the practicality and the perspective  cock-on
Anyhow just how I like em'  Good and tight and wrinkle free  ;)

Yeah well, I kinda ran out of glass ....so that's all it got!
Sorry PDQ, I neglected to stitch a warning label on it,
Disclaiming  all responsibility for having that amount of canvas on such a small boat.
Doh ! should have made the sides slack then perhaps the owner would be able to sail it .
Then again ...I doubt he will figure out how to put it all together ,
He refused to purchase the dvd of fitting instructions ! Nevermind eh.
Thanx for the feed back from the perspective of your critical eye.   :-X
Back to my shabby old ways now.... R.A.F

It started out as an extention on the back of the spray dodger
and then it grew in to a monster ::)

Oo, You have touched on a touchy subject here PDQ just from the responses already...
Nice quote from Hammerhand there.
It all kinda depends on the job and the situation and above all else the customer, There are some out there you instantly know they will be impossible to please.
It's not nice getting screwed down on price and then the client wants all the whistles and bells on the job.
But in your case PDQ , When the customer walked in the door and started telling you about his problems
and what the other company did or didn't do... First things first ,  Laugh in his face,  repeatedly
Then mention that it's very difficult, nay damned near impossible, to make honey out of dog shite or even polish the turd in question
Then again, if work is a bit slack , You could say you will  re do the whole  job , but now (todays price) is 50% more than your original quote and you will require 60% up front deposit.
Not sure who is worse  The clown who couldn't do the job, (perhaps could but not to the owners expectations after he's changed his mind several times)  Or the customer for having the cheek to refuse your estimate  but get you to repair /finish it.. !
Just book him in and tell him .. " See yoU Next Tuesday  !     :-*

Muy caliente in Alacante no?
dios mio , what an ugly cover , hope you can make it look a little more sporty than that  POS.  Whats with the totaly flat roofline?
Dunno if its the camera angle but I would have a good look at the steel work some of the bars look kinda crooked,, (before you start)
If you'll be using the coated stamoid with the smooth plastic finish on the back, Then spray ya pockets with sillycnt so it slips on easy..
wear a sombraro tambien amigo,    Buenas suerte

Good 1/4 " is fine , nice large top stitches and keep it tight as you go .
salvage to go to the outside of the curve so as it makes life easy...
Then again if you like to struggle and cuss at the machine and have a lumpy seam when you are done you could do it the other way around ..
Yeah I've covered a few of these monsters before. The hardest  part about the job is telling the customer their choice of material ain't going to work well or look good .
Now choose something more pliable.
As for you now you are at this point (you said it was in a kinda stiff vinyl),
All I can say is ... Heatgun /hairdryer.
