General Discussion / Re: What else did I miss?

Thanks everybody. I feel well enough ( so far at least LOL). Sure miss eating though, and am losing weight I can't afford. Hopefully I get my fork privileges back on the 13th when I see the surgeon again.

Yeah had some pretty major surgery to remove a cancer from my tongue/mouth/jaw. Doing alright so far. Have to wait and see how radiation and chemo go.

General Discussion / What else did I miss?

So just got home and had a chance to catch up here. I finally broke down and paid for internet in my room in the hospital but couldn't find the board to log on. What else is new with everyone? I was out of the loop for a month.

the north has that Canadian cold drifting down -

I have a sale on it right now, if you'd like to stock up. Wind chills have been below -40 for the entire month I was in hospital. Warmed up just as I got home, but still too cold to work outside comfortably.

Couldn't do that here. We got rid of the penny LOL Now if you want Tim Horton's cups ----

I don;t know how things are in the states, but up here it has become ridiculous with "political correctness".Every time our prime minister  gets called to task for spending more on illegal immigrants than seniors or veterans etc... the opposition is called racist and discussion ends.  Every special interest group gets funding and big news about their uniqueness yet despite his campaign promises many of our first nations communities still don;t have potable water but we spend billion on foreign aid.

Personally I appreciate the satire that the  wrote and am not at all offended by Steve's sharing it. I actually had a good laugh.

General Discussion / CFL Finals
November 18, 2018, 07:21:59 am
Not upholstery related, but wanted to give my friends here a heads up. Canadian football league division finals back to back today on TSN starting at 12 central. Check your local provider.

This is how we do it up here; 3 down football on a larger field with deeper end zones and our balls are larger and likely frozen---especially for the western final. Supposed to be colder than a mother in law's kiss in Calgary Alberta this afternoon. This is going to be some GOOD football! Check it out.

My initial reaction to the last question was "shore lunch". Eat the damned chicken and sell the feed. Problem solved!

But then I'd have to wait an hour to cross.

The new plan is to convince the fox to swim with me as I took the feed across and then come back for the chicken.

Hey Mike. Great to so you drop in.

Woke up to snow on the ground yesterday that didn't melt until late morning. had our first frost last night. They are calling for a high today of 9*C though. That is around 50*F. I'll soon have to unpack my long underwear etc...LOL

None of my suppliers carry anything like that. The manufacturer/importer won't sell to upholsterers but they do sell to the retailers so when I need parts like this I order through one of the retailers I did work for.

General Discussion / Let's build a table
September 02, 2018, 07:36:31 am
i didn't want to thread jack Gene so starting a new thread. those tables in the video he shared are killer, but 'doc points out that they are pricey and I was concerned about the amount of "wobble" you see in the video.

I;d like to brain storm here and see if we can't come up with a proto type that could be built in the average shop at a reasonable price.

Conventional thought would be to make like a mini scissor lift or maxi motorcycle lift. Instead of air how could we use an electric motor and worm gear like a power recliner, or and ATV winch? I think that hydraulic would get real pricey real quick with reservoirs, pumps, yadda yadda.

I am going to work on a different approach. I am thinking of four telescoping corner post, and a cable system like a pop up camper.

That table is awesome !!

Like Dennis said a compressor will rust out an develop a leak that gets worse and worse. I try to drain my compressor weekly to prevent that,

That scuba tank exploding is a freak. They have to be visually inspected annually and hydro tested every 4. The old 72 cu, ft. steel tanks run 2250 PSI, 80 cu/ft aluminum 3000 PSI and the big 106's 3300. If you drop one and break the valve off you will get a rocket not an explosion.

There is no one around here that shreds foam. My supplies won't even "haul away" remnants to try to re purpose them. I always had lots of scrap pieces around and wanted to try shredding them. My best friend is a caretaker for several cottages on Lake of the Woods and has access to a fairly large chipper shredder and I always wanted to try running some foam through it. I never got  the chance as it was always on one of the islands and not all that much fun to load into a boat. Please give it a go and let us know how it works out. Inquiring minds need to know.

Two thoughts come to mind;

A) substrate and material allow you to glue the inside back down. Your pattern will have to be spot on, but it is doable.

B) can't be glued. See if customer will let you introduce two vertical seams and staple the salvage to the frame.

Either way it has nothing to do with your skill set. You can't fight physics.
