General Discussion / Horsehair in Canada
April 08, 2013, 11:04:49 am
I talked to a youtube subscriber of mine this morning who had watched my videos on how to upholster a wing chair and decided to give it a try on an Eastlake rocker for his pregnant daughter.  Everything was going fine until he tried to buy some Horsehair and said he couldn't find any in Canada.  He found some places where he could order it from the States, but the custom duty's made it prohibitively expensive.  I know we have some upholsters from Canada here, so I thought maybe we could help this guy out, any one have any ideas?  I can retail a 50/50 blend for about $25.00 a pound, the guy shouldn't need more that a couple pounds, three at the most.

General Discussion / What happened here?
March 20, 2013, 11:07:53 am
I have the address for this forum in my bookmarks and all the sudden one day my server could no longer find this forum.  I tried at least once a day for about a week and finally figured out that something was not working.  I went to the other site to inquire and Joy told me to try www.upholster.com/upholstery-forum which worked, and here I am.  I thought this place was history.

The "GREEN" Room! / Disaster relief: bus trip
November 09, 2012, 07:23:45 am
This morning my son set out to Long Island in his MC5 to bring donated food and clothing items to the victims of hurricane sandy.  He will be making stops along the way to pick up donations.  After that he will return home, make another round of pickups and head out for NJ. His Girlfriend and her mother organized the relief effort with their local Rotary. My wife and I helped him load up some local donations before they headed out, talk about "stuff a bus" I hope they have room for everything.  I think he is going to make a youtube video of the event, if he does I will be sure to post it here.  It's moments like this that sure make a parent proud. :-)  Hears a little video of the bus.

General Discussion / A question for the canvas workers
October 19, 2012, 07:20:29 am
I am putting together a new product and need to know what would be a good canvas to use.  I am making cord wood slings, or carriers.  They are going to have wooden handles with a canvas sling with nylon webbing for added support.  For those not familiar with heating by a wood stove there purpose is to carry fire wood from the wood pile to the stove.

Thanks

General Discussion / Sunbrella vs Outdura
May 11, 2012, 10:33:39 am
Can anyone give me some feed back on the two?  I have a customer who wants to have some cushions upholstered for his sail boat in Sunbrella, the cushions are located below deck.  but Miami only carries Outdura.  I would like to keep the sale, but I might have to find a supplier for Sunbrella If my customer is steadfast on staying with it.
