General Discussion / Re: Death of a forum
February 19, 2018, 04:51:07 pm
I think most forums that have photo upload nowadays have a Kb limit. I have found this to be generally 125 and in very few I have heard 180 though Im only familar with the 125. And most know that they would need to resize their selected photo on their computer so when mousing over or selecting the resized copy it is infact 125 kb.
The issue we see is pretty much the same, a to small photo and many times blury at a zoomed size. Or my older ones were dang hard to see.
I do like the old days when random uploading photos was a norm. Although if I was a bit sharper early 2000's I would have respectfully resized so many others on dial-up or just their data line speed for loading/veiwing could be more timely for their interest.
Some sites I have really liked have had crashes and this unfortunetly lost a lot and some all photos. This is a tough one if you understand. I think most of you might.

When many members set out to post a series of photos as or a build or whatever, this is great information.
Many others value these post for sure and as many learn from aspects in the series or just a photo post.
This is a main reason I decided on a seperate photo hosting site. I dont to much photo posting now days but the thoughts of lost information I took the effort to share sure bothers me when a pc crash happens.

So back to the art or whatever words to easily link photos. I will try.
Im curious how most here would prefer to see photos in post. I mean as a link or thumbnail or other embeded size into the post and or member view only.

Have a good day

Good Morning!

Its been a real pleasure hearing you all on the forum for several years. With the added benefit to share some start-up concerns and interest. This has been and quite frankly still seems to be a friend like conversation here. In my own surprised to make it 57 & 9/12ths years, am happy to be here!

Thanks

Have not stumbled on that particular manual, but will keep an eye out.
If there is an issue at the present or something some others may have ran into. We are all sure to help a bit

You probably know this but if Im not mistaken Seiko is the lead manufacture and owner of the America based Consew company. This was in, I believe the turn over or succession of Singer to Seiko many moons ago.

Its a sure bet if you contacted Gregg at keysew.com or Bob at tolindsewmach.com, either one by phone that they will be a great help.

have a good day

In helping, I would ask which type of Visa is your friend using.  In my honest opinion the paperwork involved Im sure they know more about than myself. So for me this would be a new learning experience.  With that in mind this discussion is a step forward for you.

Good day

Im finding it a bit tough getting on the forum from the desk top or lap top. For some reason not a problem using the iPhone. There surely is a link on the upholstery supply that could use a tune up and or my updating the favorite/bookmark.

Good day

Sorry, guess I missed it. Maybe its a reason in advertisement options.
I sure do like the benefit of recomended links in the forum post. This type of posting I have done myself.
I can understand a need for advertisement options. Or better yet I understand free adverisement has its affects along with some benefits to users or members. I guess this all can still be discussed.

Good day

Good call

Inger can you and any others please help explain what im doing incorrectly;
When i try using the lower page area login i get an error has occured. This happens using my phone if that matters, i can either use the far right spot/button for the enter key or even trying to use the one on my ph keyboard, same resulting error. I certainly can use the other login so wanted to post the question.

Thank you

Some leather needles can be a good option and some have an angle or straight result.
If you can find a skiving knife you like for now you got it under control. The Knife Darren mentioned the Tina is something to measure others up to. A task in keeping them sharp is important, im just trying to find or pick up some of these leather tools. Its a really really interesting craft. With Darren's help as always a good lead, I also found a neat book that is kept at the ready.
Leathercraft Tools by Al Stohlman
Its a pictorial of these tools and how and where they are typically used. Includes some sharpening tips also.
I assume after your last post you may have seen some prices : ) get your checkbook out hehe
Just admiring them leather stamp punches Darren had on his bench, they dont give them away thats for sure.

Good day

Theres no doubt with the wheel taking place of the rear presser some great work can be accomplished. Many boot makers use this method.
From looking at some extreme leather workers they will or are setup to use Skiving machines. These machines can be had from Bob as one supplier of Cowboy leather sewing equipment, Steve at Cobra leather machine co. Also another is Gregg at his shop Keystone in PA.
And some of the old giant names as Cambell Randall.
In some accessories the skiver would have a part called a shoe many times; this can have machining that puts pressure on the leather piece. Simple eh! well anyway it can use this function to remove very thin leather material " in patterns" like a V, or a wide U shape and most used to edge taper from the thickest to paper thin so to fold over. The leather forum site mentioned and also where these above dealers daily look is both a regular and face book access. I can easily say it is worlwide with many different leather workers. Last i looked over 60,000 people. It was the second site i found interesting when i started This being the first that i daily look at. Without further bothering you.

Long ago I use work in the back of the Upholstery shop helping the wood master.  I easily remember the pieces or furniture parts having any paint were held to last of the stripper fluid change.  With all the eyeglasses, mask and gloves so adding paint particles in the fluid was Lotsa grief. When set the pieces off to dry that crap stuck well enough to be a real pita.
I remember much of the oh so artsi method was to use 2 and 3 colors to do the 60's version of faux

UpCycle
Not a word in my mind, I tend to agree with the term starting in certain crowds.
I have had way to much experience in the past with friends, family and my own young finding items and thinking I will work miracles rebuilding these masterpieces in their mind. For the pleasure ( not! )
So in respect I "know" this word needs professional work, if not discarded!

Good day everyone

The Business Of Upholstery / Re: Business

Try to develop a pattern to your initial guestimate. I have listened here for a spell and with that have made a paper or item list. This seems to bolster my homework for the estimate. I think i can say the products are very similar priced for any here ordering, if they are holding an account with the supplier. In that the product price could be used, the labor cost should be similar also yet my time may be twice of another. So thats just training and have to deal with it. So the key is getting prices of pros here and your area.
If your workshop studio is a corner on the fancy NewYork bldg. great for you, its the same location as the guy or gal on the 1st floor. Don't sweat that thought process, some locations have different rules, just work within them.

ps  take your time finalizing the estimate, next day is perfectly fine at a minimum imo.
