General Discussion / Re: The virus

For the last two days and going forward I will wear a mask when I'm away from the house.  I told my wife to do the same and she gave me one of those looks which mean - I don't hear you.
Anyway yesterday heading out I grabbed the mask and my wife said " where did you get that mask "  replied - a while ago in HD.  She asked what does it say on it ?  I looked down and read the larger numbers N-95 - she said give me one of those to wear - not everybody can get them - and they are the ones to get ??????????

The area is called Old Greenwich - looking out at the long Island Sound - across is Long Island.  The customer says she has the window open during the summer to allow heat to escape from the third floor.
What I thought was backwards was the decorative side of the window with the best side of the mullions showing was hung to face inside.  The other side where you drop in the glass faced out and was just squared off with no shaped molded mullions.  Customer said you couldn't see that detail from the ground if it was reversed.  Customer is always right !

This is an older one but still funny

The "F" Word
Question :     When is the use of"@#$%"or"@#$%ing"acceptable?

Answer:   There are only 11 times throughout history where the "F" word
has been considered acceptable for use.

In ASCENDING order, those exclamations were:

11."What the @#$% do you mean, we're sinking?"
~ Capt. E. J Smith of RMS Titanic, 1912.

10."What the @#$% was that?"
~ Mayor Of Hiroshima , 1945

9." Where did all those @#$%ing Indians come from?"
~ George Custer, 1877

8."Any @#$%ing idiot could understand that."
~ Albert Einstein, 1938.

7."It does so @#$%ing look like her!"
~ Picasso, 1926

6."How the @#$% did you work that out?"
~ Pythagoras, 126 BC.

5."You want WHAT on the @#$%ing ceiling?"
~ Michelangelo, 1566.

4."Where the @#$% are we?"
~ Amelia Earhart, 1937

3"Scattered @#$%ing showers, my ass!"
~ Noah, 4314 BC

2."Aw, come on Monica. Who the @#$% is going to find out?"
~ Bill Clinton, 1998
AND THE WINNER IS ....
1."There is no @#$%ing way Trump will ever become President"
~ Hillary Clinton, 2016

Yes I will install them and take a photo of the house from the ground - hope they fit without too much tweaking on site :)

Glazier points for the glass followed by white silicone.  I thought about oil putty but it never dries and doesn't seal for a long time and I want these panes to be water proof - the water is what rotted them out -
Nothing left but the install - going to try for this weekend

A women who works in the Church office came down with it bad - our Priest was in Italy prior but he self quarantined for two weeks in California before returning to NY - her labored breathing required a hospital stay with oxygen on and off.  My Wife works in that office once a week.  It's been three weeks since they worked together and nervous because we're both over 64 - Gene that is good advice - just assume you're infected and everyone else is.
I have a pick up today and a trip to HD needed - going to wear my mask - stay safe all !

The first window has its glass installed and painted - 2nd window finished the wood repairs -  the customer told me she priced out a replacement window but the modern copy of this window didn't look nice against their old colonial building - plus the contractor needed a hefty pay check in addition to making the windows because he wanted to make a template from the outside and this is the third floor.  I removed the windows from the inside - easy easy for an old guy

Woodworking done on one window - still have to clean off the existing glass from the old glazing - install the glass and add glazing putty - although the time in the shop split up over a few days this one window took 8 hours just for the woodwork.  I had a lot of guessing to do since the existing wood rails were so rotted at the ends there was nothing to copy - had to use a little exterior wood filler here and there but overall it is OK - this window is at the highest point in the building so no close ups from the street - better for me - front + back photos

General Discussion / Re: Business is picking up.

I know what Feast is because that's how business always was for me. I worry about Famine but never been close to it.  I have seen business fall off to levels that scare me but following a slow down it picks up again.  So what's different in our business that wasn't here in the 80's when money was flowing ? And man did it flow !
The internet - ability to order merchandise out of your State - DIY - the new generations don't repair stuff like our Parents did or the frame style is obsolete - younger folks have so many other bills there is never extra money in spite of the tremendous salaries they make ?   Isn't repairing/renewing better than disposal ?  Just a few random thoughts !
Hold on because I see a few months of belt tightening with this virus for our trade that already had some issues to overcome

I'm not aware of the best method for posting a photo but I believe there are ways outside of Photobucket and Google that are as easy as Photobucket once was.  If we can solve the picture posting issue the site is then fine.  Many of the people outside of our group never intend to post a photo - they are just asking questions and aren't deterred by the photo posting part.  They may just be asking for advice and can supply a link we can open just like Photobucket used to be -

This job came along today and not the usual but with business a little off I know this will keep me busy in the shop for a few days when there are no service calls. I'm 5 miles from the center of New Rochelle where the National Guard is set up to deliver food to the elderly that are advised not to leave their home.  An Eye brow window - old Tutor on the water in Connecticut - I could have gone there by boat if I had one.  Many businesses are suffering here especially restaurants - locals are asking that you at least do take out or purchase gift certificates and leave decent tips.  Keep positive and stay safe
