First I select the bookmark for the forum and it takes me to the on line sales site.  Upholster . Com -  than I type in the forum address and don't see a post that was here last night regarding products for sale  ?   Mike/Inger feed back is something that is positive - am I wrong - you guys asked for opinions -

Every family had a father and a mother. Until I was 25, I called every woman older than me, "mam". And after I turned 25, I still called policemen and every man with a title, "Sir".

We were before gay-rights, computer-dating, dual careers, daycare centers, and group therapy.

Our lives were governed by the Bible, good judgment, and common sense. We were taught to know the difference between right and wrong and to stand up and take responsibility for our actions.

Serving your country was a privilege; living in this country was a bigger privilege... We thought fast food was eating half a biscuit while running to catch the school bus.

Having a meaningful relationship meant getting along with your cousins.

Draft dodgers were those who closed front doors as the evening breeze started.

Time-sharing meant time the family spent together in the evenings and weekends-not purchasing condominiums.




We never heard of FM radios, tape decks, CDs, electric typewriters, yogurt, or guys wearing earrings.

We listened to Big Bands, Jack Benny, and the President's speeches on our radios. And I don't ever remember any kid blowing his brains out listening to Tommy Dorsey.

If you saw anything with 'Made in Japan ' on it, it was junk.

The term 'making out' referred to how you did on your school exam....

Pizza Hut, McDonald's, and instant coffee were unheard of.

We had 5 &10-cent stores where you could actually buy things for 5 and 10 cents. Ice-cream cones, phone calls, rides on a streetcar, and a Pepsi were all a nickel. And if you didn't want to splurge, you could spend your nickel on enough stamps to mail 1 letter and 2 postcards.

You could buy a new Ford Coupe for $600, ... but who could afford one? Too bad, because gas was 11 cents a gallon.

In my day:
' "grass" was mowed,
' "coke" was a cold drink,
' "pot" was something your mother cooked in and
' "rock music" was your grandmother's lullaby.
' "Aids" were helpers in the Principal's office,
' "chip" meant a piece of wood,
' "hardware" was found in a hardware store and
' "software" wasn't even a word.

And we were the last generation to actually believe that a lady needed a husband to have a baby.
How old do you think I am?

GIVES YOU SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT... PASS THIS ON TO THE OLD ONES, The younger generation would not understand.

This is a recent job.  Hand made chairs from India, a set of eight - have been in the clients family for years.  The foam is like toast.  How do people sit on this when the chair was 15 years over due for new foam, tighten springs, and new fabric.  Especially when this client has the financial means to arrange for restoration any time they like

Ottoman

An account asked me to make a service call to fill the corner of the attached top cushion of an ottoman.  I'm bringing the regulator but is there a way to access the corner if I remove the dust cover or not even possible ?

Down to the last bobbin case for my 31-15 Singer.  When I look on line some sites state genuine singer case - others state only they it will fit the 31 - 15 class.  What is the best way or from whom to purchase the right part.  Is after market OK or genuine part the only way to go ?

I don't use enough foam spray glue to justify buying a gallon and the spray jar.  I buy the cans from the upholstery supply house. 
What are the better rattle can brands - is the 3M extra strength contact spray any good for foam spray -
Or am I making a mistake by not using the K grip with the spray jar ?

I'm doing service work for a new decorator.  She wants me to omit the sales tax and she sent me her form -
She checked the box for Tangible Personal Property.  Since I'm a vendor providing service on site shouldn't it be the other box - a Service for resale that should be selected ?    Thanks for any help

Doc - I saw the Texas Attorney General on the news this morning talking about some low lives charging $ 90.00 for a case of bottled water -  they need to get some real Texas justice sent their way.

After removing the fabric the entire top edges were dust from old tacks and insect.  All replacement pieces have a new piece of the tenon build into the rail. Now attaching the rubber webbing and finally the needlepoint will stay put.  Aslo good time to re-glue the entire piece

I have a Kingshead scissor that I got from a tag sale.  The adjusting screw was badly rusted and I wound up drilling it out.  Does anyone know where to get replacement scissor screws which I'd rather have than jury rigging this together

First time doing a piece of outdoor furniture.  Sunbrella was good - I cut out a square - sent it to them and had the closest match - 1 yard back in three days.  With shipping $ 32.00.  I could have made the sling a little tighter but it was good enough.  The original had a metal rod covered in plastic that I reused.  Sewed the seams and inserted the metal rods - not easy to slide this assembly into the side tracks.  Backed it out - filed the metal openings a little and heavy coat of dry silicone - it took both me and my son to pull it through.  Almost gave up when it slid in like it belonged.  A chair must be a killer compared to this little ottoman.  Sunbrella is nice stuff.  I used clear nylon thread - probably not the best stuff but I have two spools.  Sewing close to the metal rod is the trick.  I can't remember if it was doc or paul who advised grinding the foot for extra tight sewing - it worked great today.

Customer purchased new - delivered w/broken leg.  Table replaced + Co. left damaged table behind.  New $ 1000.00 - repair $ 300.00 -
It was a ragged break with pieces missing.  Repair result good - fortunately it is the back leg.  Will deliver back next week - customer now has a matched set :)

A man calls home to his wife and says, "Honey I have been asked to fly to Canada with my boss and several of his friends for fishing. We'll be gone for a Long weekend. This is a good opportunity for me to get that promotion I've been wanting so could you please pack enough clothes for a 3 day weekend....and also get out my rod and tackle box from the attic? We're leaving at 4:30pm from the office and I will swing by the house to pick my things up."

"Oh! And please pack my new navy blue silk pajamas."

The wife thinks this sounds a bit fishy, but, being the good wife, she does exactly what her husband asked.

Following the long weekend he came home a little tired, but, otherwise, looking good. The wife welcomes him home and asks if he caught many fish?

He says, "Yes! Lots of Walleye, some Bass, and a few Pike. But why didn't you pack my new blue silk pajamas like I asked you to ?



The wife replies, " I did, they're in your tackle box ."

My Wife told me she is going to order My Pillow - buy one get one free.  I'm thinking the adds and tremendous marketing of this product has gotten her to bite.  With all the stuff I have poly fill, foam crumbs, down, etc - this doesn't sound too difficult to make ?
They say machine washable so I guess its fill is similar to outdoor cushions - which I don't do and am not familiar with those materials.
Does anyone know what's in a My Pillow ?  I want to make Our Pillow better than My Pillow !

New project came in today.  Repair, refinish and fabric.  Throne chair - from a Church.  Can't say I ever saw one this large - takes up the whole shop. 
Thank goodness they are not in a rush - their building is being overhauled and expanded - will take a year for the building renovation.  Will bill something but not what it should cost a COD customer.  I think it's rosewood - I have to strip off some finish to see the wood more clearly. Maybe walnut with a red stain or Indian rosewood ?  It's a pain -
Wish someone else worked here besides me !  One of those jobs you don't know where to start

Stopped in to see a friend and he was stuffing the corners of a foam bench with 65.  Keeps the corner from crushing when pulling the fabric tight.  Hadn't seen this before - seems better then padding the corners.  The bench looked great at completion - all even all across.
Any other tips for corners - please post !

I was on my way to do a service call in Rockland County -I was a little ahead of schedule and I look over toward some stores for a coffee place and see hides hanging in the window - the customer can wait !  They opened a Tandy Leather Store - fully stocked with everything you see on line.  I opened a business account which sets you up for a nice savings on items over their retail cost.  I bought this craft shears/scissor that can cut a piece of 6 oz leather with its pointed tip.  One side of the scissor is serrated and this scissor was a nice find.  I had been using a metal snips for trimming multiple layers of fabric but this scissor under $ 40.00 is well worth the cost and is better suited for getting in close.

This was sent to me from I guy I worked with in the 80s.  We worked together on a job in tower 1 for 9 months.  Below is what replaced those buildings -
If you haven't seen this it's good.  I haven't visited yet but was offered a job to assemble some cabinets being delivered however they were requiring OSHA training and a certificate before subbing me and I turned it down.  One of these days I'll get there
