General Discussion / 1965 Mustang Convertible top
September 10, 2012, 05:08:19 am
Might try my hand at replacing a top on a '65 Mustang. I wouldn't try it except it
belongs to a very dear family member. It has the vinyl rear window.

Best place to get a quality top?
Critical areas to watch out for?
Critical hardware parts that generally need to be replaced?
How to get proper tension?
Proper initial alignment tips?

Thanks!

My son is going to Berklee College for a summer program in August. Since I've never been
I thought I might go along but possibly help someone out for a few days. The dates will be
8/18 thru 8/24. Would be available 8/20 thru 8/23.

He will be staying on campus. Myself in a hotel, any reccommendations that won't break the bank?

PM me if you need help.

General Discussion / Who do you work for?
January 25, 2012, 04:50:33 pm
Not as in what company or yourself, but who do you do it for?

Myself, it's my son. It seems to be paying off. Almost tweny, works hard,
does well in school and is starting a music career. Here's his band. He and the
vocalist are the main songwriters. Just cut a demo and have enough material
for a full length CD.

Can you say proud pop?

He's on the far right.

The "GREEN" Room! / Does this look familiar?
October 01, 2011, 08:08:52 am
I was making a dust cover for some high tech machinery last week. The customer
specified 420 denier nylon from Top Value Fabrics. When I got to the middle of the
roll I came across this pattern. Instantly I thought of Mojo's problem with the
awnings.

After I let it rest the pattern dissappeared. I'm thinking it was rolled a little tight.
Possibly the fabric shifted and experience some lateral tension while being rolled?
This occurred only about a 3 yard section in the middle of the roll. Could this have
been the problem with Mojo's Recacril?

A friend of mine is trying to find a fabric that is used on Nortech Boats. He's pretty
sure it's called Gemini. The only thing I can locate is a Spradling product called
Gemini but it's like a pearlescent finish. He's looking for this specific faux leather.

The coloring is similar to Miami Brisa Soleil with grain lines being lighter in color,
however, not so much grain.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

General Discussion / Makrolon help
May 02, 2011, 01:33:42 pm
Have a customer that would prefer to have Makrolon in the forward panels
of his enclosure. My first time sewing it. I got some diamond point needles,
Makrolon samples, checked the setup on the machine and I keep having problems
with thread breakage. Dabond, Tenara, 92, 138, slow speed it doesn't matter. Ten
stitches into the sample and the thread breaks. I don't think lubing the thread will
help because it's not a heat issue. Everything else sews fine.

Any tips?

We've run into the Discontinued Persian Tweed problem.

FYI there is a close replacement marketed in the Recacril line
called Green Tweed R-771. Available from Miami Corp.
