General Discussion / Juki 1508 Engineer's Manual
May 31, 2014, 01:28:59 pm
I've acquired a pdf copy of the subject manual that does not seem to available online, at least I couldn't find one. Please send me a PM if you'd like a copy.

On my iMac, Acrobat does not allow saving the document. It can be printed. I was also able to drag and drop the file from eMail to the the file system.

Recently looked at a Consew 146RB-2A-1 for sale for about $2500. Seller claimed less than 10 hours use, and claimed to have moved to automated machines and no longer had use for this machine. The small shop had several large machines - Mitsubishi, Seico (SKZ-2B perhaps), Juki post - but nothing I'd call automated.

The machine made a good stitch and punched through as much heavy webbing and canvas I could get under the foot. However, when turning the hand wheel the machine seemed to bind as the needle rose and required quite a force to cycle. The only way I could get the needle thread to release was to rock the back and forth, which was quite difficult, and the needle thread only released about 1/4 to 1/2 inch at a time. I did notice that the belt seemed quite tight, but I didn't think to remove the belt to see if that might have been part of the problem.

I have a Bernini zigzag that turns quite smoothly and freely.

I thinking no thank you.

Subject is roughly quoted from a thread on BoatOwners.com. Skipper really writes:

"I'm educated, experienced, and talented at what I do. So why is it that a guy who sews canvas is entitled to charge 4x as much as I make?"

General Discussion / Consew 146RB Made in Japan?
January 15, 2013, 03:48:46 pm
Apparently some Consew machines are now made in China. Does anybody know if the Consew 146RB is made in Japan?

Send a PM for a copy of the subject pdf.

Although the manual is in English, when opening the file there is an annoying message from Adobe Reader to download Japanese fonts that can be ignored. Download the fonts and the message no longer appears.

General Discussion / Practical Sailor: Functional Fabrics
December 01, 2011, 02:22:33 pm
The December issue of Practical Sailor has a five-page article Functional Fabrics: Sunbrella and WeatherMax face off in a long-term test. Both are recommended. The sewability of Sunbrella was rated higher that that of WeatherMax.

General Discussion / Singer 111W155 Stitch Length
November 01, 2011, 06:29:42 am
I've not been successful adjusting the stitch length on my 111W155. While holding down the left-most plunger and pulling the hand-wheel forward, the plunger locks in just as the thread take-up lever starts up from its lowest position. The number 18 appears on the stitch indication disk. The current SPI is actually about 5. According to the instructions, with the plunger still engaged, rotation of the hand-wheel should enable changing the SPI. However, the the hand-wheel does not turn.

Would someone please correct the procedure described above or suggest corrective action.

FYI -- It's on ebay, but someone locally might be able to see it before it sells. Current bid is seems quite low.

General Discussion / Ludwig LG-0628
August 02, 2011, 02:18:09 pm
I'm looking at a used Ludwig LG-0628 that might be a rebranded Seiko machine. I would appreciate if anybody knows anything about this machine, especially the corresponding Seiko model.

General Discussion / 111W155 Repair in NAVEDTRA 14217
January 03, 2011, 10:50:22 am
I am a novice with a recently acquired 111W155, and I have learned quite a bit lurking on this forum including to procure a servo motor from Keysew.

To try to learn even more about the machine, I decided to collect information from various sources into a single document. However, while trying to create the document I discovered that I did not have the knowledge to decide which source document to use for a particular subject. Instead, I have decided to make more usable separate versions of several public domain documents. The first document transcribed is the 111W155 portion of the sewing machine repair chapter of the US Navy course NAVEDTRA 14217.

If anyone would like a pdf copy, would you please send me a message.
