General Discussion / Loose Cushion
December 22, 2019, 06:54:19 am
What is the best way to get a loose cushion on a large ottoman (40"x 30") to stay in place? I reupholstered one recently and  I sewed 1" velcro in an L shape(each strip 3" in length) near each corner on the base and under the loose cushion. Customer is saying that the cushion keeps slipping. Should I use a wider velcro or something else entirely?

General Discussion / curved welting
March 27, 2018, 04:36:42 am
What is the best way to to get a nice tight seam on the welting when you have small curved sections on a cushion and you can't use a welt foot? The zipper foot doesn't get as close as I need it to.

General Discussion / leather discolored
March 12, 2018, 10:20:11 am
what's the best way to deal with a leather sofa that has discoloration in areas? I've looked online for stain kits but I've been told that before you start you need to know what type of leather it is and if it has some sort of a finish before you select the type of product to use

General Discussion / sun shades
June 29, 2014, 06:52:53 am
I have been asked to sew some sun shades for a recreational vehicle windows, I'm not sure if I can sew this type of material with my walking foot or my industrial lockstich. It is COM material, I also need some feedback on what type of thread to use (assuming it has to be uv resistant) and what type and size of needle to use.

General Discussion / oiling walking foot machine
May 09, 2014, 06:22:43 am
I was told by my machine repair guy to oil my walking foot every time I use it, he also showed me some places to oil by lifting the machine head and oiling the moving parts. After he checked my machine out he oiled in all the places that he recommends,
and I noticed that my bobbin case was very oily, I'm concerned that by oiling the way he recommends I may end up getting a stain on the fabric, how often do you all oil your machines? I have a consew 206rb

May 09, 2014, 06:15:30 am
Hi everybody! hope you are all well, I am making some pillow forms to stuff two loose cushions on a sofa, I need to know how much larger than the cushions should the pillow forms be so that the cushions fill out nicely in the corners, and what sort of material do you generally use to make the pillow forms?

General Discussion / Changing sofa leg
April 08, 2014, 09:06:37 am
<a href="http://s101.photobucket.com/user/elsavanbever/media/Wildwood-20140408-00105_zps592f6fd4.jpg.html"; target="_blank"><img src="http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m42/elsavanbever/Wildwood-20140408-00105_zps592f6fd4.jpg"; border="0" alt=" photo Wildwood-20140408-00105_zps592f6fd4.jpg"/></a>

I would like to change the leg on this sofa to a different style leg, but 1/2 of this leg is a solid piece (the part that is not layered plywood) that goes up into the sofa rail, do I have any options here? Can I saw the leg off and replace it with another one? If I have to keep this style of leg I can always change the stain color on it, but I would rather change it to a different style of leg altogether, if thats possible

General Discussion / sewing fascia to inside arm
April 05, 2014, 09:06:59 am
I am having a hard time sewing around the curve of the fascia while attaching the inside arm fabric. I use a consew walking foot machine and I am using the double welt foot to sew with. The thread keeps popping out of the needle, I am wondering if I am not turning the fabric quickly enough and if the welt is coming out of the groove of the foot.  http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m42/elsavanbever/Wildwood-20140405-00100_zps2f1d4b57.jpg

Can anyone tell me what the white fluffy stuff in the photo is called and where I can get it? What you see in the photo is what was left after I stripped a sofa and I need some more of it. Whatever it is, it tears apart easily and sticks and molds together beautifully even on a vertical surface.

Hi everyone Happy New Year to you all. Could anyone point me in the right direction, I need some zipper feet and welting feet for a Consew 206rb industrial walking foot machine, I tried to order some from a supplier that is on this site, Toledo industrial machines but to no avail. The company took my order 3 weeks ago and has not shipped anything to me and they haven't even bothered to return my phone calls. Sure would appreciate any input, thanks

General Discussion / removing wood
October 07, 2013, 05:59:44 pm
I am reupholstering a sofa and when finished stripping I found that the stretcher fabric for the back part of the deck had been stapled to the back railing and on top of that a 2x2 had been stapled with thick wood staples I assume to better secure the stretcher fabric, do I remove this with a crow bar and get a new 2x2? I don't have the tools to remove the heavy wood staples and some of them are too deep anyway.

General Discussion / stretcher fabric
October 07, 2013, 05:52:36 pm
Hi all I am new to upholstery and I am doing a sofa reupholster of my own. When I stripped the old fabric I found that what had been used for stretcher fabric on decking and inside arms is a thin gray poly ethylene looking material, does anyone know where I can get this?
