General Discussion / Silver heat reflective fabric?
August 23, 2013, 02:44:32 pm
I'm going to build a couple stand up paddleboard bags for a customer.  I need a fabric that is reflective (UV and Heat) and abrasion resistant.  Does anyone know of any fabric that might work?  I was thinking like an aluminized fabric or something similar, but I'm worried about abrasion resistance.  Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

General Discussion / Canvas Training
May 08, 2013, 12:32:49 pm
I would like to know if any canvas people on here have ever taken any classes from any of the canvas training places (northcoast, MCTI, Hood canvas), if so which classes and what was your opinion on them?

I'm thinking about taking some classes to brush up on my skills.  I'm so slow at canvas work, I'm hoping I can learn a few tricks to speed things up and improve my overall quality.  Just curious if others who have taken these types of classes thought they were worth it.

Thanks

General Discussion / Help with Heavy tenara thread...
December 08, 2012, 09:14:56 am
Hi all, I need some tips /advice for sewing with tenara heavy (138)  I have been using 92 poly but I have a customer who wants tenara heavy so I said ok, and I just cant get it figured out. The tenara keeps shredding at the needle,  I've tried playing with tension and needle sizes.  I'm using a 22 needle now and cant make it 2 ft imto a seam before the two strands of thread start coming apart.  Any helpfor a newb like me?  At first I couldnt get the loops from the top thread to pull tight, and I ended up making the stroke on the take upp spring longer and now the loops pull tight but the thread just shreds. Could it be the takeup spring? I've tried readjusting it and I can either get big  loops or the thread comes apart

I am sewing on a juki 1541S and ive tried #18 serv7, 20 (with various points) and now I'm on a 22 needle.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Kevin
