The "GREEN" Room! / Re: Buttons and more buttons

I do have a tufting needle.  I used it on the seat cushions of the love seat and couch.  I put one button in the center of  the twine and put both ends of the twine though the clamp then shot the clamp through to the other side of the cushion.  Then I removed the clamp and put on the other button.  I know that is not really how it was intended to be used but it was easier for me than using a long needle.

And Gene, regarding the condition of the shop appearing to be in an orderly fashion.  I am sharing my husbands shop with 2 mowers, a tractor, a boat, weed eaters, chainsaws and all of his other tools.  If you could only see the whole shop I would be embarrassed.LOL

Thanks for the encouraging comments.  I could have finished sooner but the heat in our shop was unbearable for several weeks this summer.

I bought a button maker from this site and  I found a 55 gallon drum full of upholstery items on Craigslist for $100.  It had a whole box of button dies (all sizes) along with molds and backs.  I felt like I had hit the jackpot.

The "GREEN" Room! / recliners

A couple of recliners I got cheap to practice reupholstering.  They are made a little different but I used the same fabric on both.

I finally got my mother's furniture redone.  I have only done a few other pieces before.  These turned out pretty good but I don't want to see many buttons for a long time.

Thanks so much for the replies.  I'm new to this.  I'll post pictures when I get it finished.

This is my third chair to reupholster.  This is the fabric from the old seat cushion.  When removing the buttons I noticed it had some kind of glue around the holes (on the backside of the fabric) where the buttons were.  There are buttons on the top and bottom side of the cushion.  I believe it must be to help hold the buttons in place with people scooting around on it.  My question is what kind of glue is it and if I need it where do I get it?

I have been thinking of ordering the same set but I wasn't quite sure.  Now I see that they also have a set that contains a spring edge foot like Mojo metioned.

General Discussion / Looking for reliable suppliers
January 14, 2011, 08:09:00 pm
I am just getting started in the upholstery business and need to find suppliers that are affordable and reliable.  I have placed a few orders and have been less than pleased with the service.  The first shorted my order but charged me the full amount (they did send the other yardage after I called).  The second took my order over the phone,  said it would be shipped the following day.  It was shipped 2 days later and one item was missing (at least I wasn't charged for it).  I ordered from the third one first thing Tuesday morning.   Thursday after 4:30 they sent me an email saying one item was out of stock.  It took them all day Tuesday, Wed and Thursday before they let me know this.  I was expecting my order to arrive Friday.  Instead I called and told them to cancel  it.

I have been reading the posts here for a while now and I'm sure someone here can help me out.  Like I said I am just starting out, so I need to know the best places to get foam, fabric, supplies and tools.

I am in Arkansas.
