Thanks for the yardage estimates. that will give me a cost idea.  I pretty much bough this chair with the intent of keeping it, but my wife isnt keen on it. At least I get some upholstery practice from it.

Likely using vinyl on it, but i havent decided which one yet. I am open to suggestions......

Picked up a Contour Chair Lounge today and I am planning on re-upholstering it. It has some work spots in the vinyl. Any odea how many yards of material I can expect to purchase for somethin like this?

It looks like im getting an extra roll of Sunbrella 3/4" Aquamarine binding shipped to me.  I will likley not use an entire roll, and this is the first time in 4 years i have used this color. With that said, is anyone in need of a full roll(100yds) of 3/4" Sunbrella aquamarine binding? 60.00 shipped anywhere in the lower 48. PM me or post here  if interested.

General Discussion / Re: Had it with Strataglass

I have been using O'Sea 30 and 40 gauge for 2 years now. Good stuff.  I had some issues with Crystal Clear a few years back and stopped using their products. Unless I have a customer who specifically requests Strata, i dont use it.

General Discussion / Seats for a 32 fountain
August 14, 2014, 05:44:40 am
Has anyone had experience recovering seats in a 32 fountian? Looks like ill have a couple to recover over the winter. These have the hydraulic drop away seat bases. I'd be interested to know how much time was spent in recovering them so I can accurately price them.

adding the other half of the zipper i use clear plastic and attach the plastic to the zipper using 1/2 inch transfer tape. Then i use my snap straps to hold the plastic to the snaps. Get out the sharpies and start marking up the pattern.

The transfer tape will hold very good as long as you are pulling the plastic across the plane of the zipper tape.

I have a customer who is interested in having his three marine folding deck chairs recovered in sunbrella and I am having a hard time with the price quote. He has 2 single seaters and a double seater. Has anyone recovered these in sunbrella?

General Discussion / Liability insurance
March 21, 2013, 10:08:14 am
Im trying to find a insurance carrier for liability insurance for my canvas company. I seem to be running into walls at almost every turn. As soon as you mention "Marine Canvas" they cringe and either cant insure you OR its astronomical in price  per year. Anyone have any suggestions of which companies I should call or how to approach them?

thanks!

i only use #10 for smilies. #5 seems to small in my opinion.

The guy states under his picture that he didnt know what he was doing. However, looking at the amount of pleats, tufts, etc. I would say this chair will take a considerable amount of time to re-upholster. If it takes you a 40 hour work week thats still 2000.00 at 50 dollars an hour. I would ask the guy how long ago he had his last one upholstered. I am guessing it was years ago. If it was a year ago, then he needs to go find that guy that did his first one.

We have a guy local to me who does marine canvas and a multitude of upholstery. Whenever I give a customer an estimate and they bring up his name I know I wont get the job. I politely tell them he gives his work away and I cannot beat his prices. If you arent going to make a decent wage at a very skilled profession, then its probably not worth it.

I re-upholstered the Captains chair on my Baha Cruiser over the summer. I used 3/4" starboard for the seat base and Seat back. I had no issues using my harbor junk stapler and SS staples.
