The Business Of Upholstery / Create custom awning
September 04, 2015, 09:24:44 pm
I built a half fence wall enclosure for a client to hide her yard tools, but she has found it isn't enough to keep the rain and leaves out. I thought a awning type contraption with a domed top would be suitable and she likes the idea. I could use half inch schedule 40 PVC that would bend easily and can be pieced together and glued with fittings. Haven't found curved awning poles, are they available or do you have to bend them yourself? Suggestions or ideas?

The Business Of Upholstery / Expanding to auto upholstery
September 04, 2015, 09:07:07 pm
I've been doing marine and furniture upholstery, custom sewing, alterations, I worked for a bridal shop and a taylor, new garments, drapes and so forth and am considering adding auto upholstery. I'm in a small town and don't know anyone who is doing this here. Several have inquired about it and I'm not sure. Someone told me yesterday they had gotten it done s few years ago and the person had finished it in 3 or 4 hours. They'd also used memory foam and had done some softening to the leather as well as patching the foam. Having it done in that amount of time would require having all materials at hand which I don't have. Any ideas or suggestions?

The Business Of Upholstery / Re: Polaris Ranger Seats

I have 2 Polaris ATV's, and they come stock with Allsport 4 way vinyl.  Easy care, durable.  ATV's generally go where trucks can't, and take a beating.

You may want to look at the 2012 MFA Time Standard Manual.  You will probably take longer then the times stated, and it won't tell you how much to charge per hour, but it might be a good starting point.

That's awesome!  But what does 2 Bow, 3 Bow, 4 Bow, etc mean?

I've been investigating what it costs to buy new, why reupholster if it's cheaper to buy new?

Keeping records of time is a good idea, need to remember this!

I appreciate all your suggestions, I do keep in mind that I want to build a business, and need to be a little low, but I'm not doing it for nothing!  Good news, is my gym job now wants me to cover his kitchen chairs!  Still, the small pieces price out per inch too cheap, so I need particularly to raise those prices.
