Steve,

I looked at the numbers really careful and it seems like a good deal for the price. Again it's that "for the price". If it was much more I agree it would make more sense to start from scratch. I was or am going to do that here next week. I still have a couple of days to think about it before I sign my lease up North. I really am so sick of this weather....snowed the other day!

That's why I think the deal is a little safer for me. What I don't know the one full time employee there will know and is doing most of the work now. 2 other employees are part time. Owner does not do much if any sewing.

Thanks for the responses. I do like the Gulfside and this would be North of you Mike towards Tampa. I agree its not always worth buying a canvas business. The price does seem right and for instant work it seems worth it. I am opening the same here April 1st if I don't buy the one in Fl. 12 months established VS maybe 8 from scratch. Nothing to keep me here but it is home. I do like the idea of having a couple of expierenced employees. I'm good with covers but have only done one enclosure on a pontoon boat. It came out really nice and the owner was real happy. Not a lot of time to make this decision..........

General Discussion / Working in Florida

Hello everyone,
I live near Chicago but am planning on opening a shop about 50 miles north of here. In the meantime an oppurtunity has presented itself for a business in Florida. It's a canvas shop long established with what looks like very steady and consistant work. A couple of employees and again very steady work and history. It's not close to anyone here that I can tell and I was down there last week and only saw one other shop. I think the business will continue to do fine and the price seems right. I'm going to be 53 next week and looking to settle somewhere but not sure about this cold anymore. Everyone warns me of the oppressive heat down there but I love the water and I already own a center console.
Just curious about some other opinions.

I don't think they intended them to be a replacement for metal snaps.  I think they will have their uses...I bought some for the floor of my center console. I like the idea of not having to drill holes to snap down carpet.
