Well I am surprised.  After emailing them and requesting my money be refunded back to my PayPal account, they actually did it promptly.  Not sure if telling them I was going to file a complaint with PayPal, and then with the BBB had anything to do with it.  I found the material at another website, this one was Decorative Fabrics Direct.  Actually had a customer service rep take the order over the phone, immediately emailed me a receipt, and the product shipped today and I was emailed a tracking number.  Wish I had ordered from them first.

It's been 2 days since Michelle from DIY emailed me and said she would follow up on the order.  Since then, no contact and ignoring my emails.  I just emailed her and told her to cancel my order and refund my money back to PayPal or I will file a complaint.  That damn website of theirs looks so good that it fools you into thinking they are a reputable business.

Sofadoc, I still figured it was still a stock item since Naugahyde still shows it with all the other vinyls on their website.  I figured if it was discontinued, they would have removed it.  I need it for part of a treatment table at one of the local hospitals, and it is the material the manufacturer used.  Because of the uniqueness of how it looks, and since they only want to do the damaged pieces, I have to try and find some if at all possible.

Well sofadoc that sure does not make me feel good.  Yesterday I emailed the email address that PayPal has and got an answer back from someone named Michelle.  She said it shows that the order is shipping from their North Carolina warehouse and she would check and see what the status is.  I am wondering if they were bought by another company, since their website only shows a Mississippi warehouse.  As of this time, I have not received an update.

Anyone have a supplier that stocks Naugahyde Twilight?  All 4 of mine do not.  Those would be CF Stinson, Burch Fabric, Miami Corp and Keyston Bros.

I googled their names.  Kris died May 20 2017.  So it has been awhile.  PayPal had a different email address for contact.  Going to give that a try, if it doesn't work, I will open a claim on them.

Thanks for the responses.  I wouldn't have ordered from them but I needed 2 yards of Naugahyde Twilight Midnight Grey for one of the hospitals in the area, and my 4 normal suppliers (Keyston, Stinson, Miami Corp and Burch) don't stock it, and DIY said they have it.  I don't really mind a delay as long as you return my call and let me know.  Looks like I will be contacting PayPal.

Does anyone know if DIY Upholstery Supply is legit.  I wouldn't normally buy from someone who sells wholesale to the public, but my 3 normal suppliers do not carry the vinyl I needed.  I ordered the material last Tuesday, PayPal took the money out on Wednesday, but all I got was an invoice confirming the order with no tracking number.  Call them and you only get voicemail and they have not as of now returned any calls.  Also any emails get returned as undeliverable.

Not sure if Stamskin-One would work.  Anything used must meet the following requirements.  Most polyurethanes don't meet the requirements.

No DEHP (plasticizers)
No Mercury
No Formaldehyde
No Perfluorinated Compounds
No Flame Retardants, unless need it to meet building fire safety codes. If present must meet GreenScreen Benchmark 3 or 4 of equilavent
No added Anti Microbial.  Triclosan and triclocarban are explicitly prohibited. No other added or built-in chemical antimicrobials are allowed unless they are registered with the U.S. EPA under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA), and have published data that show efficacy in a hospital/clinical setting measured by a reduction in healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) as part of comprehensive infection control measures. Antimicrobials added to materials or products for the sole purpose of preserving the product are exempt.

The way I look at it is I have told them my reservations on using polyurethane, and they say use it anyway.  So polyurethane they will get.  I will probably use Ultraleather on most of the stuff.  The Hydrolysis test is 14+ weeks, the highest rating I have found so far.  If they want to pay $125 per yard retail, who am I to complain.

Thanks MinUph and sofadoc.  I have already told the powers that be, the costs involved.  They are one of the largest hospital systems in the state, and a non profit also, so the admins just look at it as money they already have to spend.  Not to mention, they are all in on this Healthier Hospitals Initiative.  I really don't care about the cost, as long as they are willing to pay it.  But my suspicion is that none of these products are going to hold up under the disinfecting and wear they are going to get.  Especially since no one actually uses the cleaners properly.  After seeing that Pelton Crane will not warranty there Ultraleather upholstery on their dental chairs, I am assuming that they do not feel confident that it will last long term.  So at this time, they will pay what it costs with no guarantee on the material.

The Business Of Upholstery / Medical Exam Tables
July 08, 2017, 12:38:40 pm
I have been upholstering medical and dental exam tables and chairs for almost 30 years, and have finally run into an interesting issue.  One of the large hospital systems I do work for is involved with something called the Healthier Hospitals Initiative.  http://healthierhospitals.org/   It is a way for them to go completely "Green".  I have been told that all upholstering going forward will use either certain polyurethanes (ones that meet the requirements) or silicone based products like Silica.  Does anyone have any experience using these products on medical exam tables or chairs?  I have seen Ultraleather cushions on dental chairs fail within 3 years from the factory and was not covered under warranty.  I don't believe these products will hold up under the cleaning and heavy use, the way the good commercial vinyls do.  Wondering if anyone is using this stuff, and if so which ones have given the best results, without getting into the $165 retail range that some of the products from C.F. Stinson go for.  To me, the $125 for Ultraleather is ridiculous enough.  Any information is appreciated.

I noticed that the link to Refinish Coatings does not work anymore.  The new link is http://refinishcoatings.net/

June below is a link to the Marine Fabricators Association Times Standard Manual.  There is several pages of time estimates for cushion, seat and panel upholstering.

Another thing to consider.  Do the booths have springs in them?  I have found that if the ties break and the springs start to spread apart, this will allow more stretch in the material and cause premature cracking.  Especially when the servers kneel on them to clean the tables.

Finally, I have three restaurants that have someone come in to clean the windows, and they stand on the booths to get to the windows.

General Discussion / Re: Decorative nail trim strips
January 23, 2014, 04:38:29 pm
The job was approved.  They want me to do one chair with the 130 nails and see if they like the look.  If not, then we will be installing 500+ nails in the 32 chairs and I will be buying the gun.  If I do I will let you know how it works.
