We just got back from three weeks in the fifth wheel. I did answer a couple of emails admittedly but nothing else. I just got tired of never getting a chance to put the brain in neutral so not answering calls and emails was the cost of relaxing. I know not everyone can let the business go for a few weeks but its the only way for me to shut the grey matter down, there was a few po'd customers but like I told them I want their cell phone numbers so I can call them when they go away.

Funny eh we can all relate stories of the same situation. In my case it was like a cleansing and relief all at once. The funny thing is I think I went on to make more money and I am darn sure she went on to make alot less going to the shop she went to, win win!

Bobbin , I agree this is the year of the button. I have done more tufting this year already than the previous 3. I am just getting ready to do 450 lineal feet of curved diamond tufted booths for a pub, it will be 7 days a week for the month of May so I can get it done on time but then its into the fifth wheel and seeya

When I first started my business my very first customer was an elderly gentleman not really old like I am now but at the time he seemed old. I had a small sofa to do and all went well until I tried to deliver it back. I left a few messages then finally his sister called to tell me he had passed away. After many calls back and forth with the sister she sold the sofa to the gentlemans neighbour and I got paid, my wife says I should have taken that as a sign of things to come and taken up another profession lol. Sure glad it sold to the neighbour because the fabric was butt ugly and there's no way it would have ever lived in our house.

OOOOUCH jeebus that looks painful keep it high above your heart for a few days to keep the throbbing at a bearable level and a liberal shot of whiskey taken as needed ... Doctors orders well a furniture doctor  but we know pain so consider it a prescription. Take it easy because you know you will bang it on something if you don't

Is the needle nicked? Try changing the needle and see if it helps its hopefully something simple like that.

Sometimes when you are loading a big piece like a vberth try holding the cover with your weak arm and flopping it up,and down while pushing it into the cover with your dominant arm. You would be surprised how easily it goes into the cover just get it started normally then shake the heck out of it. Latex is darn heavy and its a bear even when its tied up and on your shoulder but a big warning be careful of the pilings on your blind side they can jump out and send both you and the beautiful new mattress into the drink, don't ask.

I'm in the shop every morning at 6:30 and usually pack it in around 430-500. I only stop for lunch for a half an hour and the days are not long enough right now. I really tried but can't do the big hours I used to, in the old days I was a machine and 12-14 hours a day was nothing but I am getting to old now for that nonsence. I am going to try not working every other Friday this summer and see how that goes. I'm sure the salmon will be very nerveous hearing this!

Met a girl fell in love or so I thought. Her step dad and grandfather were working in a furniture factory in another city where the rest of her family was as well so we packed up the car and moved to Calgary. They got me a job in the factory and in 3 months I was the top frame maker. The last year I worked there (1980) I made 27 thousand and never worked a Friday the whole year. Wifes gone moneys gone but 40 years later I'm still building and upholstering furniture not sure I would change a thing.

Over the years I have found chalk to be a very good way to remove or disguise something you need gone.

I have gone from 13 employees to 1, me and could not be happier or more jaded. I trained guys and when they finally started making me money they took off. The last two guys both took my last contacts when they left. I will never hire again I will never train anyone again. I was told by an old boss you always train your competition and he was right. I never went and burned my old employer I went into service which he did not do and he was grateful and his boys still treat me well and feed me work. I have a bad attitude for staff now can't stand the idea of hiring anyone anymore call me bitter call me a jerk don' t care. Keep it small keep it all. Rant over

Ya I'm about 300 -325 on those but thats Canadian so soon it will be free in American dollars

I never used to but lately I have been burned by un marked flaws and joins in vinyl. Granted most of this is coming from designers and they get the fabric before me and THEY should be oking the product but its usually left to me to do. My real frustration is these people who stand the roll on end especially velvet arrrg. So yes I take the time to roll it out now it saves time not wastes time.

They use such cheap garbage foam its no wonder it creases and I bet its right under your butt. Steam it glue it and make sure they know YOU will not guarantee it will not happen again. Been burned by this repair before.
