Yes on the bias cut. I cut my material a bit wide and sew in the cord as close to center as possible then I take a 1/2" strip of thin plastic and lay it against the sewn welt and cut it clean. Perfect size every time, super consistent as well, cut it with rotary cutter.

General Discussion / best boat seat materials?
March 25, 2012, 06:27:11 pm
Hiall,
Putting together some new boat seats for my brother. (I'm no expert, but I stayed at a Holiday Inn last night!)
What do you folks suggest for the materials? Will vinyl hold up better than a exterior furniture grade materials. ( this is a small boat )
What brand is popular?
Any input will help with my quest!
Thanks,  jeffinPA

General Discussion / Re: Conveyor Catch Traps
February 27, 2012, 05:50:14 pm
Looks like a catch 22 tarp would do.
I'd make a channel in all the end seams and insert a flexible tube ( 1/2" platic conduit ) it would bend easy and require less supports to hold it up keep things straight.
How and how often do they clean the traps?
Looks like you'll need a crew to hang it as well.
Good luck.Jeffin Pa

General Discussion / Re: Welt management

Thank for the replies, made them weltless and they look great in place.
I tried a few samples to figure what had happened and think my Adler may have been the culprit. With a few tests and with or without welt it was bunching the seams. Tried to lighten the tention on the foot and the thread but still bunched the relatively thin fabric.
Ended up putting the cushions with the trusty old 130, and it worked.
I'll post some pics as soon as I finish the rest of the room>

wonder if i could use a chinese finger trap and pull soft welt cord thru the already constructed setup, thus saving the welt and the material. although it's still not cut on the bias! OR better to just build the cushion without a welt?

Looks like it's a weltless box cushion for me. The hard foam welt cord ( possibly lifetime supply) came off the spool hanging from the ceiling and didn't seem to display problems until it was sewn onto the top. and got worse after the box side was applied.    Jeffin PA

General Discussion / Welt management

Problematic welting here, just cut all the parts for 3 large box cushions.
Sewed the welt to the top and then to the box side. My welt looks like it is under spring tension, all twisted and not straight at all.
Is this because I cut the welt from the length of the fabric and not on the bias?
Also not much fabric left to start over with new welt configuration. Thinking of just loosing the welt and box to the top and bottom.
Any ideas to save the day or night in this case?
Thanks all and HH........... jeff in PA

General Discussion / Re: 45k21 bobbin threading?
July 31, 2011, 07:37:00 pm
well I did find the instructions for 5$ and downloaded it. But when I load the bobbin in the case and thread under the tension plate and on to the eye hole, snap the holder into place, it still does not pick-up the thread.
instructions for flatbed model say put cap on at the end of bobbin instructions but the cap is left out with post bed machine? mine does not have a cap over bobbin cavity, post bed.
guess i'll have to try it again tomorrow.
just frustrating not being able to test the darn thing.

Can't seen to find bobbin threading instructions, I find parts lists out the wazoo but no instructions, ( for free that is )
Anybody walk me thru the process, and that is one big bobbin as well!

Hiall, Well the 100.00 Adler machine I picked up ( along with 5 others ),
works like a dream. I have been using a w155 for the last few years and boy what a difference a real machine makes. I had to spend 115.00 for a new thread tention plate set-up ( whice was missing ) and it sews perfect first time.  267gk373 machine in great shape from the lugage repair place right behind my shop, also got a 45k21 in great shape,  2 -  29U173A patchers with sucessive serial #'s and look like they were never used, 206b.
Got rid of two and made my money back!
Now I have to get rid of a couple machines at home before I can bring more in the basement, never enough room !
New seats for the truck, comming up soon!..... jeff in PA

General Discussion / Cushion migration
October 15, 2010, 09:11:34 pm
What are the factors that make a cushion migrate to the front? Have this problem with a chair I just re-did. It doesn't move all that far but if you don't push it back each time it just keeps on going?
Bad angle of the deck?
Bad spring tie?
Not enough angle and height at front of deck?
Related subject in same vain. Removed deep seat end sectional that had the cushion connected to the deck, owner wanted new bottom so he could flip.
Is that connected to keep the cushion from migrating  forward or is it just cheaper to build that way??
