General Discussion / Re: Spray adhesive question

Hi Rich, looked up 3M neoprene adhesive and there are several kinds....80, 1300 etc. which one are you using? Watched an upholstery video and guy was shooting some kind of adhesive out of a spray gun. Came in a gallon jug. What's that stuff and what applications is it used for?

General Discussion / Spray adhesive question

We've been using Permatex headliner and carpet adhesive to stick foam down. Comes in a 16.75 oz spray can. Stuff works great but it is expensive at $13.95 a can. What adhesive products do y'all use and recommend?

I view it mostly on my smart phone. Where I live, there is no internet service other than dial up and my smart phone is only way to connect with outside world. Some days the phone doesn't get signal either.

Wife and I have decided on a new Cowboy 538 needle feed from Toledo Industrial. We didn't know Cowboy made a needle feed until we placed a call to Toledo industrial looking for a used needle feed. We bought our first machine, a juki 1541S, from Bob Kovar. He has been great to work with and helped us through the Juki learning curve.

Thanks for the advice. Was able to get one done. Tried to post a couple of pics but kept getting message that said my files were too big. Have pics saved on iPhone and cropped them down using edit option but still got message saying files were too big. Don't know how to make the pic files on my phone smaller.

Trying to upholster an office chair with rounded corners. Looked really simple...no boxing, no piping....
How hard can it be..... After numerous tries, I am about to run screaming. Using marine vinyl and can't get around the rounded corners without a bunch of wrinkles showing on the edges....which is not what the chair looked like with the old vinyl on it. Can anyone explain to me what the trick is for getting around rounded corners without wrinkles before I go insane? LOL. Thanks

This question is not necessarily an upholstery one, but hoping to get some advice. I'm looking for recommendations on the best make/type of industrial sewing machine to use for soft furnishings, specifically draperies. Would a drop feed machine work for this application or is a needle feed better? Thanks in advance for any experiences the members here can share.

I can vouch for the hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and dish washing liquid recipe. I was a
pro bird do trainer for 21 years. Had my fair share of dogs running into skunks during field trials and hunting. I mixed the recipe a little different. Used equal parts of each ingredient and always used blue dawn.

I restore vintage trailers. Bought my first Fein multi-tool three years ago and thought it was the best thing since sliced bread. Liked it so much I bought a second one that had the improved quick attach lever instead of the screw and allen wrench way of securing the attachments.

General Discussion / Building a work table
September 29, 2015, 05:55:05 am
Wife got started learning to do upholstery work this year. Bought her a new Juki 1541S in January. She has sewn all her life, but only on a home use machine making clothes, pillows etc. the Juki was a mighty big step up. Since January, she has made a lot of progress. Learning the ins and outs of the Juki was the biggest challenge. Her hobby is turning into a regular business that is now taking up a good portion of the house. We have a 14' x 28' portable building that I will be turning into an upholstery shop for her. She will need work tables. Can anyone give me some input on how big the tables should be, what kind of material should the tops be made of, how tall, etc. I have read some folks integrate the sewing machine table into the work table. What are the pros and cons of doing this. Eventually she will be reupholstering cushions and seats for the vintage travel trailers I restore and may expand to making awnings for them as well. Thanks for your advice.

Thanks to everyone for taking time to help a couple of rookies.

Sofadoc, yes just sewing around perimeter. Problem is when wife gets to a rounded corner. That's when the needle broke....going around the corner. I've just learned that different sized needles take different size thread. Been using #69 thread with the #20 needle. According to chart, I should be using #92.

Thanks Paul. I checked the needle size in the Juki and it's a 125. Will this 1541S take a 180 needle?
